If I let the revs and road speed level out completely before changing gear it's fine, but if I'm actually accelerating and changing up the gears it seems to be very difficult to do so with the revs climbing in between shifts, as if I'm leaving a foot on the accelerator too long or pressing the clutch in too soon.

Is this just the way they drive or is something amiss?

It's a 2004 2.0D manual by the way.

Thanks in advance.
it meant to do that. makes for a smoother gear change and puts less strain on car due to sudden rise in engine speed when you lift the clutch
