Has your car done crazy miles? Volvo use decent steering racks that should not wear out really.

Once you do start getting play in the rack, you can actually adjust it ONCE

There is a preload adjuster on the rack, you can adjust out a certain amount of play one time only, which should add another 50k+ miles of life to your rack

The garage have done a few jobs for me and so far without a hitch. They said it needed front drop links which I replaced and a steering rack. In the last couple of weeks I’ve noticed the clunking noises more frequently and they happen even when driving in a straight line also. Also noticed that I get steering wheel wobble on the motorway which ranges from mild to severe, to the point that it rattled a tight spring with like a bolt going thru the middle off from I think it’s the top of the clutch pedal! It still works but it’s a lot more say snappier lol

I never knew that and I don’t think my garage do either lol! I’ll speak to them and see if they will have a look. Car has done 170,000.
