Hi there, i'm a 4th year Transport design student at Coventry University in England. My final year project is to design a new Volvo coupe for the Volvo range, while striving to maintain the qualities of the brand.

Volvo obviously has a history of safe, reliable and practical cars with a style all of their own. I fondly remember summer holidays in a red 200 series saloon my dad had several years ago.

They also have a history of producing more niche vehicles to complement the ranges of the time. P1800, 480 and the current C70 were some of the products of this thinking, all the while maintaining the qualities of the Volvo brand.

I intend to design a Vehicle for the future which demonstrates the possible future of Volvo creativity, design and styling while building on Volvo's existing values.

While i recognise that Volvo enthusiasts obviously must like the cars as they are now, your thoughts and inputs would be a great help in guiding where i perhaps should 'take' the brand and it's products. As Volvo owners it would be a fantastic aid in assisting my research into the project before the design stage starts.

Any thoughts are welcome, whether it be concerning what you feel makes a Volvo a Volvo, through to what you like about (or dislike) about your current car no matter how big or small. What might you like to see in a Volvo of the future? Do you feel the current range of Volvo's are 'right' for the company?

I hope this message generates some interesting thoughts for everyone, Best wishes, Andrew Somerville

Volvo has a strong tradition of luxury coupes, which you will know of course. This is often forgotten about, even today, when talking about Volvos and most people still think estates. My personal favourite is the 780, one of which I will buy when the kids are gone. If you could make a car that built on the looks of the 262/780 but worked for current and future demands on safety and looks, I personally would like that.

George,
Interesting thing about Volvo was that they were a luxury car in the UK. Not only luxury but classless as they were a working car, high mileage and load carrying. I had a 940 3 years old which had travelled 168000 miles. This averaged out at 6.4 mph, 153 per day, 1073 per week. It was serviced every 6 weeks within 10 miles of the due mileage!!!. When the V70 was introduced volvo claimed a life of 120000 miiles for the engine, surely a downgrade? When people asked you what you drove you answered VOLVO. You didnt say which model as you would like a cavalier, escort, 206 etc. just A VOLVO. Interesting to see that when push comes to shove you settle for a 700 series ....so would I !!!! Cheers Nige
