Vacuum pump, Tick tick tickety tick

My derv has an intermitent ticking noises from it, Exhausting the vacuum and letting the pump work stops it temporarily, anything I can do to solve this?

Understand it is possible to quieten them and hope to get the previous owner of mine to show me soon. Will report back. David
