Hi
I have never done anything like this before so bear with me.
I bought a s60 d5 2003 53 plate and I was hooked but on the way home from Kent it went into limp home mode and to cut a long story short it wanted a TURBO and the dealer I got it from said he would not put one on.
So I took it back and got my money back, thinking that lighting can not strike in the same place twice I went and got another this time 2002 02 d5 auto with full Volvo history this time, now this one is mega with the auto box! But in the last 1500 miles (2 weeks) it has cut out about 5-6 times saying engine service urgent had it to a friend that checked the codes and it said minor fuel leak he cleared the codes but it happened again, so had it to Volvo all day they had it and said no fault found and no codes.
Someone out there must have had this happen to them, but no one is that unlucky like me to get two duff ones one after the other, its a real shame cos the cars are ace and I love it to bits! PS it’s done 135k but that shouldn’t matter, been told that there well for 300k if you look after them and this one has been really looked after.:Dancing_chief:

Had it to volvo again they are now saying that the fault code relates to low fuel pressure so having 2 new fuel pressure sensors fitted tomorrow hope to god this works cos its costing £350.00 PS 16 people have looked at my thread but no one has replyed has no one out there had this problem ? Come on someone help me out here!!!!!!

Fuel filter? Mine had the same error, my mechanic replaced the filter and all has been fine since (Although mine only did it once - limp home mode) and had a tuning box fitted at the time.

Same error code, though.

I CANT SEE IT BEING THE FUEL PUMP, JUST HOPE IT IS ONE OF THE SENSORS THAT IS FAULTY £350.00 IS A LOT OF MONEY BUT AT LEAST I AM NOT PAYING FOR IT AS THE DEALER THAT I GOT IT FROM IS PAYING ( GOOD MAN ). NOW IF THIS DOESNT WORK I THINK THAT IS IT MIGHT HAVE TO TAKE THIS ONE BACK TOO!!!!!!:hissyfit:
EVERYONE I SPEAK TO SAY THAT THESE ARE REAILY GOOD CARS BUT I AM NOT HAVING A GOOD EXPERIANCE AT THE MO ! THE 2ND ONE HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE TYRES CATCHING ON THE INNER WHEEL ARCH SO TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER I GOT IT FROM AND THEY SWOPPED THE LOCK STOPS OVER AND THIS IS NOW FIXED THE PROBLEM ( GOOD MAN ).

I would say it was the fuel filter i have cured 2 D5's like this by changing the fuel filter , it wasnt neglected just black . dirty fuel? It was restricting the fuel flow to the pump hence low fuel pressure message .

Not cut out at all in the last 1000 miles and I got my money back from the dealer, a bit naff that it was probably the fuel filter.

Had new front links done as well so i hope that is it now, car now out of warranty cos I have done over 3000 miles in a month.

hi stuart
with all the technical data that we have and laptops , scan tools, readers it all gets away from the basics, and as you say the fuel filter proberbly did cure the problem. where will we be in 10 years time i wonder.

Went in a Merc e280 cdi 2005 05 the other day and what a pile of c**p it was very worn inside for only 27k trims broken and worn is this what merc's are like now. Glad I have my s60 its done 138k now and it feels nice and tight still with no wear anywhere on anything including the pedal rubbers and steering wheel. Has anyone out there got a s60/v70 with big mileage on, seen one on ebay with 332k 2002 52 and still going strong. Hope mine does that! Doing about 40k a year so i think we will find out!

hi stu, glad you got your little problem sorted,i,ve had a very similar problem on my v40, it cut out 5 times around paris the other week,i to asked my local dealer to have a look and they promptly gave me a £400 bill and said there was nothing wrong with my car !, well you can only imagine what i said,i joined this forum last week and have not had a reply,so decided to take the bull by the horns and have a look at the basics, anyway cut a long story short i found the sender unit in the fuel tank blocked, cleaned it all out, changed the fuel filter, job done !so much for my local dealers diagnosis, and the moral of the story is--- K.I.S.S, KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!, take care enjoy your car, mines got 95,000 on the clock on a 52 plate, takes me to france 3 times a year and drives like new.

Hi Stuart

sorry to hear of your problems. I do hope you have it fixed now. In Feb06 i bought an S60 D5auto BN52LVO (hope its not the one you got) what a beautiful car afte a couple of weeks it started to randomly cut out. There was plenty of detail in threads posted back then have a look. It went back 5 times for many fixes without success, sometimes it went for a couple of weeks fault free the would start again nearly killing me many times it got so scary to drive I hated driving it, even Volvo UK could not fix it eventually the independant dealer swappd it for me and I have an 04 manual which I hvae had for a year and its brilliant but I know the garage sold on my old car to some poor person. Fingers crossed yours dont become such a nightmare because they really are great cars.

Hi everybody.

For one month I own V70 D5 2003, 180 000 km.

I also had engine cut out, it happend 3 or 4 times for 10 000km. And a very terrible message "URGENT ENGINE SERVICE" was shown.
Every time it was on very low rpm, and almoust all times in few minutes after engine start.

Is this fuel filter? Or our super dirty fuel? Or may be something else?

There are no Volvo dealers near me for 1000 km, only in Moscow...
And I try to do almoust all work myself.

Best regards from Russia.

Hi Dmity

When was it last serviced? Did you do it yourself and if so did you reset the service indicator? It's may be going into limp home mode.

As soon as the car reports an ENGINE SERVICE URGENT message it will log a fault code which can be retrieved by Volvo or a Volvo specialist which will ascertain where the problem arose, ie the likely cause. Can you get any one to read the fault codes? If you can post the fault codes here you will certainly get some useful answers
Roy

PS You just need someone with a suitable code reader. Dosn't have to be a Volvo dealer. Also suggest you start your own thread for this problem to get the max no of replies.

Thank you Roy for answer.

Last service was at 167000 by Volvo dealer in Germany.
After that at 170000 I changed motor oil, motor oil filter, motor air filter, cabin air filter, checked and charged the battery.
Also I needed to change language in trip computer from German to English,- I visited Volvo dealer, they chaged language and read fault codes from car and engine. There were some recorded codes(but no red or yellow lamp on panel), they cleared the codes and asked me, if I drive until empty tank because this codes can appear if car runs until empty fuel tank. But I didn't do so, every time I have not less than 20 liters, may be someone before me...
Also they reset service interval.

My friend in garage have only BOSCH KTS diagnostic computer, it can access my Volvo onboard diagnostic system, but not all systems and not all codes can read :(

Dmitry.

hi Dmitry

It is common for cars to run out of fuel pending being sold at a dealers. Seems odd for it to be causing a problem 3000 miles on though.

I think your going to have to find a way of getting the fault codes read unless your prepared go thorough some expensive part replacements on a hit or miss basis.

This post may be of some use but check the sofware will work on your car before you buy anything as you have post 1998 car.

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?p=308713#post308713

I think the official Vardis software is expensive but you can buy it on ebay if you are prepared to change the date on you computer to fool the software into thinking it's a current version. It's time dated. In your case it may well be worthwhile.

All the best.
Roy
