Hi all, just got my first ever volvo, a 1991 740 turbo diesel. I'm keen to get the cam belt done as a priority, can anybody recommend a garage to do it in the south wales area who wont charge the earth? I'm quite mechanically savvy but not confident enough to tackle this one.

Hi, my parents live in South Wales, my Dad has always had his Volvos serviced regularly since moving there in 1988 by a small private garage who are not too expensive, they live in Narberth so imagine this man will live within 20 mile radius, private message me for his phone number if that is local enough for you. I've got a 940 turbo diesel, hope yours is good but keep your eye on the coolant as you've just got it, lol, see my postings, I use bucket loads, head/gasket problem being diagnosed tomorrow, understand very common on these

I will recommend Bridgend Volvo Specialists to do this (Independent non franchised Volvo Specialist) if your not intending on going to a main dealer, though obviously south wales is a big place, so this could be way out of your area. There are many good independent garages out there, but these are probably the best in my opinion, as they are all Volvo trained technicians working there and they have all the Volvo specialist tools and equipment. Call them on 01656 769769 to get a quote.

well I had it done, I found a small independant garage who had access to the tools. he was'nt keen for me to ever bring it back again though...according to the workshop book its a 7 hour job WITH the proper tools!! definately not something you'd want to tackle yourself unless you're very good.
