After a sudden surge of hi-jacked and high jacking of already hi-jacked threads i thought it may be best to post a sticky to try to keep all these issues together, in order that the dealers can offer the best service...

I think if we can start with the Model and Serial number of your unit, if it transpires any more Identificational information is required i will amend the post...Maybe one of the Dealers can clarify this...

There is a small software that provides the 4-digit code if you can input the orientation of the diodes in the back of the CR-906. Real simple to operate but you must remove the top cover of the radio to check the diodes.

I can send it to you if you want. Email add please.

Hi all a couple of calculators for CR 705 and Cr 905
You need to see the diodes in the radio to work it out

Can I add that if its an original radio in the car, then by far the easiest method to obtain the code is from the Registration Number or VIN Number. Only when this code does not work I would ever ask for serial numbers off the unit. (In those cases we would need serial number and model of the unit)

Contact details in my signature if anyone wants to get in touch, generally its better to send an email direct to the email below, and i can try to help.

Simon tired to fix mine, but the unit had already been recoded, due to whoever put its original code on the Volvo database getting two digits back to front :S

Thanks BillG. I actually understood that right up to the eeprom bit. :nah::notworthy:

Got the code from Taggarts Volvo in Glasgow over the phone this afternoon. Took all of 2 minutes to get the code and 2 hours for my display to reset to allow me to enter it.

If the display is saying OFF, you must leave the set switched on, i.e key in the ignition for 30 minutes to 2 hours before CODE reappears on it. Then enter code and sound returneth. All praise The Mighty Taggarts.:thumbs_up::thumbs_up:

Just wanted to say thanks to Rufe for getting my code but as usually nothing is easy for me.
sc-801
model3533725
(D.M25/6/85-27/9/87)
NO2/02631/15602

9506 on top but not the code,4969 I am yet to try but it was a small code on a sticker which may have nothing to do with the code.

Thanks again to Rufe for my service history and keep up the good work.
Much appreciated.

Another thank you for Rufe here as well.

Provided the code for my son-in-laws S40 after the battery had been disconnected at a previous service (independant garage). My daughter and son-in-law had taken to 'stealing' my wife's Focus or my T4 'because they've got music' but they've got no excuse now!

They've got a 3.5hr drive to do Friday so were seriously happy last night when I gave them a code that worked.

Once again - many thanks Simon

Just a quick note, its always better to get in touch with me directly than posting here if you need a code, as i will no doubt miss posts made here, for a while at least. I will get back pretty quickly if you ask me direct (during office hours).

I am always glad to be able to help. I really don't like hearing of people who have been told they have to pay large amounts for these codes when most dealers will do it for free if asked!

Shameless plug time then, but please dont forget that if anyone ever needs a price on any genuine volvo parts, with our large discounts, please get in touch either by PM or email. Details and link to our feedback is in my banner. [Worldwide mail order service.]

I'm new to this Volvo malarky! I've just bought an S70 T5 CD (Ironic considering the cd player does not work). Now someone has written V70 on the top of it so I'm assuming it's not the standard one. I also don't have a clue which is the serial number so I'll write everything down!

It is an 805
8052G34W069
V00690V1589042C

And someone has written down 2454133.

Registration number is P28xxxS if it helps at all.

I expect it is a different unit than origionally fitted so it is unlikely the plate will be of assistance....It is not advisable to post VIN information into the public domain....

Also giving thanks to Rufe for getting me a code! Now though, again being new to the Volvo scene (and the fact that I'm an idiot)... How the hell do I get to the point of putting the code in? Granted I've not left it on for two hours, but is that really the way of doing it? I left it an hour and a half and still nothing, and time constraints mean that leaving it two hours isn't always the easiest thing to do!

I don't mind helping anyone, but please contact me directly, this thread is not the place to find me.

All requests are advised to be sent through my parts request link: http://www.frfvolvo.co.uk/mo-volvo-parts.asp

If its the original unit I need your Registration or VIN, if its been changed from another car I may need the serial number and model of the unit.

I am off for 2 weeks starting yesterday, so now cant help anyone until my return I am afraid.

Another thank you to Rufe for getting my code.

I can't find a downloadable manual for this particular model, but from another manual I've worked out what most of the buttons do. One has me foxed, though. The top right hand button is marked RND and I think that if you have the disc player (I don't) pressing this button will play a random track. Beside the button, however, is the legend "Reg" so it presumably has another function. Anyone know what it is or, alternatively, know of a manual download?

Dear Rufos

I Hope you can help me, I’m from Portugal, so sorry about my English.
I’m going to work to Angola – Africa next month, and to help me I send by ship my old Volvo.
The trip to Angola took 35 days more or less, and they unplugged the cables of the battery, now I don’t have radio, because ask me the code, and I don’t know the code.
Today I talk with all the official dealers of Volvo in Portugal asking for help, and the only thing they say to me was, WE NEED THE CAR HERE or nothing.
My good, the car is in Angola 10.000 Kms away, they don’t care.
Can you please give me some help with the code, I saw in the forum that you possible can arrange the code, so please, I will be very grateful to you

if you have entered the code 3 times incorrect, it will not be locked.

However, it should say OFF when you turn it on, every time, then go off, so is that what you mean?

if so, then you need to get the correct code from a dealer, or from RUFE here, and then you need to apply power to the unit for at least 2 hours!

That will reset the unit, and allow you to have another 3 attempts

you have two options, leave the car running for 2 hours, stood or driving, or remove the stereo and connect it to a 12v supply for 2 hours, but you will need the correct cable for that.

I got a code from Volvo and found the same code written on the coding page of the owner's manual. But its not the correct code.

Local dealer says that the radio must be bad and it needs to be replaced.

Most likely, the radio has been replaced and the database is incorrect, but I cant get and answer...

What was the cut the diodes trick? Will it work on the SC-811 radio?

Thanks.

I am still in shock. After 2 days of frantically search the web, calling dealers and emailing code-givers on the net, I found the code stenciled inside the ashtray.

And it worked on the first try...

Hope this is not too far off thread - I have mislaid my code, but I know I will find it in time. However, I need to carry out some maintenance requiring battery removal (detailed in another thread). Is it OK to connect another battery in parallel throughout the process, so system is still live, or are there other implications of which I should be aware?

Depends if you are removing the battery to gain access or if you are working on other electrical equipment which would make it a safety consideration.

Please can you help me finding a radio code for my original Volvo radio in my mk1 2000 reg S40 GDI
This is an Irish car reg 00 KE 6488.
I have sent the VIN to FRF Swansea using the online form after reading the advice not to put it here publicly.

Simon, if you see this, please can you let me know if you received my VIN correctly although I am not sure if you will be able to get a radio code for an Irish car. I tried to send it as a message through the forum but it was not possible as I do not have enough posts.

Thanks for your help!

Probably a stupid question but, to input the code do you press the 1 -6 keys by for example code no 2345. Press preset key 2 then key 3 then key 4 then key 5. Or is it like my last car. you press preset key 1 twice then key 2 three times etc
My unit is a 700 by the way

Hope you can clarify for me

Phone or visit any dealer. Armed with the car registration number they can supply the code for the original radio unit fitted to the car. Some may charge up to £10.00 for the info but most no longer make the charge since it is less than 30 secs on the PC.

Just a quick note to anyone who is waiting for a code from me at present, but I apologise for not being as quick to reply as usual but I am literally inundated with enquiries and I am working through them all as quickly as possible.

I will reply to everyone as quickly as I can but I simply can not reply to everyone in the usual time. This is because of a number of factors out of my control, computer systems being down for over two weeks, people being off from our department at present, and simply being very busy here, etc

As Migrator says any dealer can do this, but if they decide to charge you then you should approach me for help, but at present you may get a faster reply trying locally first. (some dealers charge around £30 for the code I have been told!).

Also, when radio codes found from registration numbers do not work I can find alternative codes from the serial number and model number, but again all dealers can do this as we all have the same systems regardless of what you get told , so again it may be an idea to try locally. Any problems then you should approach me. Usually I would not say this, but I have a VERY large list of people waiting for radio codes, and also an even larger list of people waiting for parts prices.... I hope to clear everything as quickly as possible, but please bare with me.

By the way, posting the details here will not usually get a response from me. For the reasons mentioned above I do not come here looking to add to my work load I am afraid, but if you follow my parts webform I will reply when I am able to:

http://www.frfvolvo.co.uk/mo-volvo-parts.asp

(I can not give codes to anyone outside the UK.)

Many thanks for your patience!

Rufe :)

Hi,

I am still giving out codes where required. Unfortunately I have given more codes to you in one year than I am actually comfortable with doing (more than 10), so in order for me to carry on supplying members here with radio codes I will limit the amount of codes I am giving to any one person. I have to draw the line, this service was for helping individuals on here who were struggling with finding a code from their local dealer for their own cars, not for people buying and selling multiple units I am afraid.

Sorry about that Bobbych.

Simon

No problems, I understand your reasons. But all I can say, is I am sure I have not had more than 5 from you, and all the ones I get, I sell to members on here, as hacked units, so they all benefit members of this forum.

I can't see ANY reason why Volvo should not release codes for vehicles, say, that are more than 10 years old. What harm could it possibly do?

Let's face it, the chances of any self respecting scroat wanting to steal anything as ancient as a 15 year old Volvo radio that doesn't go BOOM BOOM BOOM and have flashing lights on it, so that their thick, drug soaked brains can actually find it in the dash is pretty slim!

Might save Simon (RUFE) an awful lot of work as well.

Personally the BEST thing I ever did was to replece the head unit on my 940 with something that actually sounds better, has bluetooth/mp3 etc and receives stations that weren't even thought of in those days.

Jod

I have on various volvos had radio code problems all I ever did was to take my log book for the car to my local Volvo Dealer and he imputs the vin no. of the car onto the Volvo computer and it tells you the code for the radio fitted to that car - *SIMPLES"

hi rufe, Tried PMing you also tried to find your email but no luck, hoping you can help me with a radio code for my sc-805, serial number VO0690 22189022G, the number at the top of the sticker is 3533775-1, i've asked volvo for the code from the reg but it wasn't the right one and have been chasing it but no one seems to be able to help me. I've had a different volvo with the same problem and had no troubles getting the code, but now i'm getting the run around, being passed from department to department, my local dealer even gave me volvo warranty dept. number and they couldn't help, so if you can i would be most appreciative as driving with no music is unbearable at times, specially with me having to go to a hospital 70 miles away every week.

The correct radio SERIAL NUMBER is required for a code...It usually begins with M++++++ or V++++++

Remove the radio from the dashboard and post the SERIAL NUMBER found on a label on the casing

===================================
Here is a video showing how to remove a standard radio from the dashboard.
A pair of extractors are required (available from Ebay etc ) but these can be made from 2 pieces of bent, wire coat-hanger or 4 small drills(using the blunt end) or 4 small Allen Keys or 4 small screwdrivers or 4 nails or even 4 darts.

An assistant is useful to pull the radio out whilst you are releasing the 4
securing clips

I've just bought a 850 estate. I have the radio code, but can't input it. What do I do?

At first the radio display came up saying "CODE", but I didn't have the code at that point. By the time I found it among some paperwork in the glove compartment the display message had changed to "OFF". I rang a local dealer and he said reset it for an hour, but it was left overnight and it still said "OFF" when I went to it this morning.

I also tried disconnecting then reconnecting the battery, but to no avail.

Any advice?

Thanks Simon,
code worked fine!

Must say folks, this is a fantastic service these guys offer. My car obviously has a different radio unit to when sold as the code from the VIN wasn't correct, but they were able to find the code from the radio serial number.
I thought they might be a bit "oh not another flipping radio code" over the phone, but they were polite and eager to help. They gave me the code there and then, so DO give them a ring rather than email.
I ended up buying some parts from them at a good price so I am very happy.

I really hope we have been able to help everyone who has had a code from us over the years, I don't think there have been many which we were not able to find a code for.

Yes, sometimes we have given codes out when people have called us but we do prefer to do this via email so there is a record of the conversation.

To make it easier I have copied and pasted the relevant question and answer from our list of FRF FAQ's (found here: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showpost.php?p=1095861&postcount=486 )

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IF YOU NEED A RADIO CODE:

(If anything below contradicts anything you may have seen before this then please note the information in this post is the most up to date and therefore the most accurate.)

(Q38) I HAVE HEARD YOU CAN SUPPLY RADIO CODES?
Yes we do, and at no cost. We have supplied many radio codes free of charge to Volvo forum users over the years but there are some things we have to point out:

[1] We can only supply radio codes for UK vehicles.

[2] We only supply radio codes to people who email us, not over the phone. Please email frfvolvoparts@gmail.com and ignore the auto-reply you may receive.

[3] We will ask for your registration number and VIN number in order to proceed.

[4] If the code supplied does not work then it is likely that your radio has been replaced at some point in the past. This is not a problem but if this occurs please then take the radio out to find the following information (sometimes these codes may not be on a sticker, but etched into the metal body of the radio):
-Model Number: eg: SC-801
-Serial Number: eg: VO12345A1234567B, OR: M12345678
-Part Number: eg: 3533711

[5] If this second code does not work then it is likely the radio has been re-coded at some point and no Volvo dealer will be able to help, but this is very rare.

[6] Remember that some other Volvo dealers do charge for this service (some upwards of £30 per code) and we offer this service as an extension of the discounted parts supply scheme through the Volvo forums, and as a thank you for the continued support we receive from the forum members.

[7] We reserve the right to NOT supply a radio code if we so choose, at our discretion.

hi just a tip to help you keep your radio from losing its code if you need to disconnect your battery before you disconnect take a domestic 9v square battery solder a fly lead to each terminal wit croc clips at the end attach clips to battery leads on car this provides enough power to keep the radio code not suitable every time but for a quick battery change can save alot of hassle getting a re;code

Your radio is made by CLARION and the only CLARION code that can be calculated (using a serial number ) anywhere on the Internet is if your radio also has a BARCODE SERIAL NUMBER beginning with C 7000000 + + + + on a separate label somewhere on the metal casing.
(Note ...not beginning with CL.)

If not then it will only be available from your Main Dealer or a Decoding Service or your local Car Radio / Audio Store who will connect a laptop to read/recode the memory chip (EEPROM) inside your radio.

I disconnected my battery and charged it yesterday as recommended by my mechanic. After installing it the radio read "CODE". I did some research and discovered you need to pull the radio out, take down the number on the side (serial), have either a dealer or online 3rd party service decode it into a 5 digit-code that will unlock you radio system. Well...

I did all the above for serial#: PLI0109445 and was given the code: 42164

I punched it in and no luck. I was then told it may be locked so left the ignition in the 2nd position for 90mins. I came back and punched it in again and still no luck. After entering it I hear a beep but nothing changes.

What the hell?

Hold down the TP button for at least 10 seconds after you turn the radio on. "Becker 1" will be displayed. Rotate the right knob (slowly) and it will display the Becker model number. Then rotate it again and the serial number should be displayed on the radio.
Or, if the radio is out of the car the then the serial number is on the label.

CR-210:
Press tone, then 8 and 0 simultaneously. "Becker" appears. Press station up arrow on right. "PR-VERS" appears. Press one of numbered buttons below display, directly below the LCD arrowheads (try a few). The model number will appear. Press station up arrow on right. "SERIAL N" will appear. Press the numbered button again. The serial number will appear.
Or, if the radio is out of the car the then the serial number is on the label.

CDR-23 (or later):
These radios do not have a security code - that is, not that the user enters.
These radios are security tested on the MOST (fiber optic bus) system to see if they are the "programmed" radio. The radios are programmed and recognized by the car’s DME and can only be replaced by a shop with a PST2 or PIWIS. These radios will not request a code when battery power is disconnected.

The following may help someone..........

My battery died on me the other morning and I read the problem with radio codes on here (i don't have the code), so when I got a new one I ran some jump leads to the clamps from my other good car's battery and then 'carefully' removed the clamps and battery, 'carefully' lowered in the new battery and replaced the clamps nipped them up and finally removed the jump leads.

Result (and believe me I had my fingers crossed!) is radio works just as before. I know it's not much hassle due to the help you can get from the guys on here but I thought it was worth a go.

There is a small software that provides the 4-digit code if you can input the orientation of the diodes in the back of the CR-906. Real simple to operate but you must remove the top cover of the radio to check the diodes.

I can send it to you if you want. Email add please.
Hi Glock19,

You wouldn't happen to have the software tool to recover the code for a SR-701???
Someone told me it can only be recovered by Volvo Sweden... Is this the only way, it's rather costly I'm afraid.

Wasn't able to send you a PM with my email, because I haven't reached the "30 message-posting-limit" yet...

Another asking for help. Slightly different request.

I have a left hand drive v40 with the hand book, radio instructions in German.. Which I don't understand.
The radio fitted is the volvo ct-906. I do have the code for the radio and I know it works as I have taken the battery off in the past and used the code to reset the radio.
However some one has been using the car and disconnected the battery, which was fine but then tried to reset the radio it using a random code that they thought would sort it. (very bright) They tried this a number of times so that the display on the front of the radio now just displayed the word off . and the radio will not work.
They then decided to ring me for the corrcet code. That corrcet code now will not reactivate the radio. Anybody else had this problem and can help to sort it. Cheers

Hi everyone, I recently bought a secondhand volvo hu -605 stereo unit to go into my old battered and bruised 1997 workhorse V40

I don,t have the code for the new stereo.... The serial number on the unit is VO3550 2926E186 and also written on the unit is the registration of the car I presume it came out of? AF03 JFG... Once the code is found my next step will be searching for another few hours online to find the female connectors that go in the back of the hu-605 that are different from the ones that went into the old cr 902 and most places only sell the male equivalent for those wanting to change to a new iso unit and then to spend another 4 hours following the wiring diagrams to change the connectors over, I wish I had stuck with a cassette deck now! oh well at least I have the aerial adaptor lol... Thanks if you can help. Dene.

Rang up directly to get the code for the radio.

Excellent service (Jeff i think it was? - terrible with names) and code received within 1 min of the call.

As always these guys are the people to deal with for an excellent and friendly service.

Many thanks!

Please do not call us for radio codes, Bren it was actually myself that you spoke to (Simon) and I was able to deal with your request over the phone as I had somehow overlooked your original message but then did find it when I searched for it. We really do always ask everyone to send us an email for all radio codes.

Once again here is the information for anyone looking for a radio code:

I HAVE HEARD YOU CAN SUPPLY RADIO CODES?
Yes we do, and at no cost. We have supplied many radio codes free of charge to Volvo forum users over the years but there are some things we have to point out:

[1] We can only supply radio codes for UK vehicles.

[2] We only supply radio codes to people who email us, not over the phone. Please email frfvolvoparts@gmail.com and ignore the auto-reply you may receive. While our best efforts will be made to reply to you as quickly as possible it may take us up to 2 working days to reply.

[3] We will need your registration number and VIN Number in order to proceed. Please send these in your enquiry.

I hope this helps,

Simon

hello rufe
can you send me a code for a cr 905 radio in volvo 850. i see you recommend the serial number approach rather than downloading the diode calculator. alternatively would you give instructions how to use the diode calculator. presumably i have to take the radio to bits ?
many thanks

Can I add that if its an original radio in the car, then by far the easiest method to obtain the code is from the Registration Number or VIN Number. Only when this code does not work I would ever ask for serial numbers off the unit. (In those cases we would need serial number and model of the unit)

Contact details in my signature if anyone wants to get in touch, generally its better to send an email direct to the email below, and i can try to help.

Hello Rufe, I was trying to get some info about the radio code for my daughters Volvo C70T and came across your thread and I sincerely hope that you'll be able to help me.

Reg: W606 XCE

Model : VOLVO 3533775-1

Serial No: V00690 X9139245G

Thanking you in advance

Just installed a HU 802. The seller hasn't got the code anymore, now he tells me by email...
I've got the following details:
Serial No.
V01720 V8211186D
3533962-1

Hope that you can help me with this. The radio looks so much better than the aftermarket kenwood that was installed.

Many thanks in advance!

I sent an email to Rufe a couple of minutes ago also, but just in case... Same problem obviously as most of you, but I just noticed that Rufe mentioned in a post that they can only find codes for cars registered in the UK. I happen to live in Estonia. In case Rufe is not going to be able to help me, can any of you?

information regarding my car:
Reg nr: 035TKP
VIN: YV1VW14K23F933888

information regarding the radio:
I believe that it is original and has not been changed, but I cannot be certain
Serial nr: VO2380 25225230R
Model: HU-405

I was also wondering how to reset the display (from "off") so I could reenter the code. The information I have received concerning the matter shows that in some cases it is okay for the engine to be running for 2 hours and in some cars it only works when I turn the key just as far as needed for the radio to be turned on (for also about 2 hours). I drive a 2002 volvo v40.

Any assistance is very helpful. My previous car's radio was stolen and now this.... Lucky me..
