A2 code 5-2-1 & A3 code 4-4-4....
 

Hi Guys,

I have done several hundred miles over the past 2 weeks due to having to sort out the sudden passing away of a family member, bit of a shock to the car as it doesn't do very miles at each year, did 1k between the last MOT's lol.

Lamda light has come on, disco'd the battery, checked codes, I have A2 code 5-2-1, and A3 one (abs) is 4-4-4, altho this one is always there, I queried it while ago, it points to a faulty solenoid power supply or suchlike, but the abs works fine so have been advised to ignore it, as it appears that it does crop up on some cars.

Re the 5-2-1, am I right this is the front o2 sensor?, is there any connections I can try cleaning? And is the car ok to pootle about in short term? DIY'able? Cost for part?

A2 521= oxygen sensor heating faulty A3 444 no power supplyto hydraulic modulator valves

Hints or tips anyone? How about a known good one from a breaker?

Replace with a new genuine sensor or a secondhand genuine, just don't waste time or money on universal/cheap ones.

What's up with the cheaper / uni ones? Don't they all work the same then? I don't normally do many miles, couple thou a year at most, so don't need super longevity lol...

It's not a question of longivity, they just don't work with the Volvo engine management system.

Thanks to forum member 850Rick, I have a working s/hand one on it's way, and have ordered a removal tool from amazon, so fingers crossed that it be fixed sometime in the next few days.

If it gets it sorted for the time being, I guess I had better save up for a new genuine one at god knows how much, hundred quid or so I believe :sad-smiley-023:

Can a small trace of copper slip be used to prevent future seizing?

Also, I understand a good blast of wd40 before undoing the old one would be a wise move?

Got 850 Ricks's s/h lambda today, but is the wrong one, firstly the plugs are different, the have a locating lug, but on opposite sides, so it won't plug in, secondly, the wiring colours are different, mine are red white black yellow (titania?) whereas the one from Rick is black grey white white (zirc?)...

Guess that one will go up in the for sale section for what I paid for it...

Bugger....

FRF's price for a gen Volvo was circa 175 quid, silly money if you ask me, so hunting around now, local motor factors / my local mechanic who I've used for years recommended either a walker / FAE or fuelparts.....

Watch this space....................

from experience in a dealership, non gen lamdas rarely work, or do for a week and light back on, especially if the wires need cutting and soldering!
get a used one or new.
