EFI-231 fault code
My P1 v70 with the Dream XXI system has a constant fault code throwing the lambda light on "EFI-231 Long term fuel trim part load"
I clear the code, and it may run for a week or two, sometimes it comes back on within hours. Its only on LPG not petrol, I replaced the pcv system a few weeks ago with good hoses as the old ones were plugged with screws and gooing up the sump with moisture. Any Ideas? |
What are the live data fuel trims reading?
|
I dont know how to pull the fuel trim readings, so here are a couple of screenies.

The reducer type is not set correctly as it should be MP not Std.
Are the injectors standard or fast? You also need to map the system. This can be roughly done with the modify carb or better still with the engineer key to adjust the full map. The autocal will only get you near the right area to start mapping from. |
I cant get the idle to sit steady, so autocalibration wont work, I had it sat on autocalibration for 5 mins and nothing happened. The status bar hit 75% and went back to 0. Ill change the vap settings tomorrow, How do I know if the injectors are 'fast'?
Autocalibration might have to wait till im on an open road where I can make sure I have a steady 2500 - 3500 rpm. Thanks |
Look at the printing on the injectors. If they are marked as fast the will be fast, some early prototype ones only had a 3ohm marking. The standard coils were just marked 12v DC nothing else.
You can not use the autocalibrate while driving. I do can remote mapping but its a lot better to have the car with you to do it. |

Looking at them I would say standard coils then... How long does the autocalibrate last? 5 mins sat at 2500 rpm doesn't seem right... |
Doing the autocal with the old injectors and old software/firmware does take a while. Best bet is to use the dealer software and just manualy adjust the full map.
The minimum opening time for the old std coils is quite long and the ECU struggles to find lean as the engine will normaly be close to the minimum opening time. One thing that can help is to put on all lights, heaters, AC and anything else that will add load. The will help the ECU find lean |
