Is there any chance that the Volvo has an alarm but is is malfunctioning and how can I verify this?

I'm pretty sure that all S40s built from Nov 2003 onwards have a Cat 1 alarm as standard.
If it's not working, it's probably because the siren has a fault tilt sensor and has been deactivated
