Question Do you recommend Scan-Tech parts?

I have just received a consignment of parts from Braydens, They where helpful, very quick, and positively cheap.

For instance an own-brand timing belt from my local shop is £40, From Volvo dealer £19, from Braydon £6.

A timing belt is pretty important and expensive to change. A poor product would be disastrous if it failed.

My question is, to what extent do you get what you pay for with Scan-tech brand parts?

I've heard some conflicting information about Scan-tec.

Had a few bits off them myself, PNP switch for my 960 worked fine but I got rid of the car shortly afterwards so as for longetivity I don't know.

Also had engine mounts for my 240, must admit that I'm not that impressed with them, they still allow a LOT of movement to the block, especially on start-up.

I think if you're on a budget they're ok for a lot of stuff, but TBH for something as crucial as a cam-belt, if I can afford it I always go for original or OEM, such as Gates, they have a good reputation.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Hi,

If there is a choice between OEM and Scantech parts, I would choose OEM any day.
I certainly wouldn't give a Scantech Cambelt the same life expectancy as an OEM belt. Reduce it by 50%+. Personally I wouldn't give it the time of day.
Their water pumps are unimpressive. 10 years for an OEM pump to show signs of wear. 1 year for the Scantech one to do likewise!
Engine mounts not the same OEM quality.

Can't understand them because if they made the parts to the same quality they'd be on to a winner. Stupid...

Probably because they'd cost more than 50p to make!!

Default Scantech

I am sorry to say I have never been happy with Scantech engine and gear box parts, they often fail very quickly. The worst part I had fail was the PNP switch on one of my 960s, the original switch did 12 years and around 150k or so,I can't remember without looking at the service book, the Scantech failed in 13 months. I am totally with CTCNetwork on cam belts and water pumps Volvo and only Volvo go on my 960s, if these crucial parts fail, it can be disasterous.

I have used them for parts a number of years and never had a prob .
The other good part suppliers would not use them if they were no good , not worth their name !!

I have used their suspension bushes in the past and to be honest they were rubbish. One part I fitted was the saucer shaped bushes on the front suspension that Volvo charge the earth for. I had more back and forth movement with the new ones than the original ones. I now have some superflex ones fitted.
One thing to remember is that although the items are labelled as Scan-tech they are all bought in from different suppliers. It's worth looking at the parts to see what they are like as some look just as good as the original Volvo ones.
I have a Scan-tech center propshaft mount on my car and when compared to a good original one on an Auto propshaft they look identical, the rubber is of similar hardness and seems well bonded to the steel brackets.

Well for various reasons I didn't manage to get the proper part so the cheapy went on. The car had to go in today to get the blowing exhaust gasket done. That was a nightmare the poor chap had to work until 6:30 with me watching him 'cos of the problems. Glad he did it not I.

Gave it some stick on the way home, ran like a rocket. I could get to love big-engined autos.

Keep posting if you have comment please. Or recommended lullabies.
