Alarm
Hi I seem to be having trouble with the alram on my 2000 V70 2.4t. Over the last few days it has been triggered various times of the day for no reason and the display now says today that the Aalarm needs servicing by dealer? Also I have found that the alarm is hardly audible.
Has anyone had any similar issues? Thanks |

Hi, same here. I have a 2001 S60 T5 SE. The alarm went off the other week a few times for no reason. I took it to Claytons Volvo who as the preceding entry states diagnosed the siren. Including the VAT was £146. I wonder if that included flying the mechanic over from Sweden to fit it?

It's the standby battery in the siren that fails. It looses charge as it gets recharged so often eventually it won't take any more charge and this is the problem. If you remove the alarm siren from the car (disconnect the battery, wait 5 minutes and its on the drivers side under the plastic protetion in the wheel well) and saw it open (or any other means you can find) you will find 4 button batteries as you find in a watch connected together which need to be replaced to fix the problem. My advice is, open it, examine the batteries configuration without disconnecting them yet and make the new battery (possibly from a combination of other batteries and Maplins lol, you will see) then when your happy with the new one, disconnect the old one and quickly put in the new one, its not a good idea to leave it wth no power for too long, just in case.
If you try this good luck, let us know how it goes Josh |

If the car is a P1 (classic) V70 model then you can actually buy just the backup battery from volvo, i have sold one recently after someone came to me after being quoted nearly £150.00 for the siren. The price of one these battery replacements is £43.15 inc vat from us, plus £2.35 for the postage... a LOT cheaper than the whole siren.
(edit - just found this thread: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=56866) However, as this car is a P2 model V70 then you cant purchase a seperate battery unit for these. A new siren kit from us at FRF Motors is a total of £80.78 inc vat plus £3.21 postage. Saufboy, to me it appears that MRG is quoting you for just the siren on its own, which is actually more expensive than getting the kit, which includes the same siren, plus more parts, believe it or not.

Rufe thanks for the reply, my local dealer have confirmed it is the siren and that it will cost £220.00 inc vat for installation. However they have said once the new siren is installed the car needs to be plugged back in to a PC so the alram can be set up? Do you know if this is correct?
