Default Rear wiper

Our new purchase 2003 v40 has an issue with the rear wiper only wiping about half of the screen, despite fitting a new blade, so my guess is a wiper arm issue ? I noticed on parts for volvo, they list a mod kit containing a wiper and arm, unsure if this is a modified version or just a full replacement cure ?
Funny enough my xc70 also has an issue with missing top of rear screen and again there is a kit listed.

It's a simple fix - Volvo file off slightly the part of the arm that holds it in place against the spring...hard to describe, certainly by memory, and I am not at home or with the car right at present.

If no-one else has helped by Wed/Thurs (when I will be back home) I'll take a photo and explain what I mean...

Yep, 30 sec fix. Just get yerself a round file. There are two raised ridges that stop the travel of the arm behind where the hinge is. A bit tricky to explain, will try and take a pic when it's light.

Easy fix. All you need to do, is to grind a bit of the plastic and give the arm a bit of it's original angle. Have done this trick on 4-5 member's cars and it worked a treat every single time. Will try to get some photos so you can see what you need to do.

Just out of interest, why not buy this?

I did. It looks way better than the stock wiper with it's weird bend, and it cleans all of the glass.

Thanks everyone! My wiper works properly now. Just a note to say I found it easier to remove the spring by filing a small amount off and then using the short part to pull the spring round to do the rest. My spring was brake drum spring tight and just as fiddly... :-)
