T8 charger cable stuck locked to XC90

I was charging the car at home with a fixed wall charger on Thursday night and got an error message saying charging interrupted on the app. Not unusual I thought, it happens sometimes. Come Friday morning I go to unlock the car and pull the charger cable handle out and it has a red light above the port and the handle won’t release. Tried 30-40 lock and unlock cycles and no release. Called Volvo dealer, referred to Volvo roadside who said cover expired, referred to Lex who lease it, sent AA. AA man unable to release it. No emergency release of locking pin. Car now tethered to house. Any ideas short of cutting the isolated cable or disassembling the wall charger to unwire it. I can start and move the car using the seven second override, so if I can get the car detached from the wall it can go to the dealer. Help please!

Essentially, access is gained to the rear of the charge point and then it is manually unlocked.

Having done this, you would then be able to go to the outside of the car to pull out the charge cable.

Hmmm? But I would have thought the AA engineer you called out would have attempted to perform a solution of this sort, though?

Hi if you can remove the NSF wheel arch liner there is a small nut/ screw that you can turn and it will wind the locking pin back and you can release the charger cable

I suspect you've tried this already, but have you held down the fob's Unlock button for 5 secs and then tried pulling out the cable?

Ours locked itself, had to go in the other car, then it just unlocked as normal the next day - not done it since...

Stupid question but did you try to push it in before pulling it out? Mine just needs a push in to release the pin before pulling it out.....

This happened twice. The first time I travelled to the dealer with the cable stuck in the port. It required service and then a worked fine until the first freezing temperature.

This time I heated the charge port with a hair dryer, and it then worked normally. Presumably moisture gets into the mechanism that freezes ? Condensation ?

Hi Guys,
Noted the dealer's costs for this, terrifying especially as my charger cable locked itself in last week! I got Volvo Assist to come out (£160) as I thought this needed specialist attention. The Volvo technician, was a good guy but his commentt of "to be honest I'm winging this. Seen a few of these on XC40 and XC60 hybrids but not XC90s" did'nt fill me with confidence. I think this forum disputes that claim.
Anyway, cut to the chase Chris. You cannot get to the locking pin without removing the inner NSF wheel arch, popping out charger surround (relatively easy) and then you can unscrew the charger port from the inner wheel arch. The locking pin mechanism sits on top of the charger and is a component part. In my case, the locking mechanism was clearly at fault as you could hear it and see it lock in place and cut the engine even without a cable in place and it was hot to the touch (This all started when my garage mains tripped which I just reset and thought nothing of it until I tried to remove the charge cable).

XC90 T8 2018 Inscription Pro. Silver
The Volvo technician was all for taking it to the nearest dealer. I said lets just disconnect the locking mechansim electric cable. Car worked and is still working fine. Just cant (well, scared of plugging in to charge it) charge it from mains.
It took us 60 minutes to diagonse the problem and that included pushing the car out of my garage, jack the car up, removing wheel etc. It will take no more than 5 minutes to replace the part (held in by 2 screws and disconnect a cable). This is why I'm loothe to take into a main dealer who will make a **** and bull story up of what they had to do AND CHARGE A FORTUNE!

I am now trying to get the component part locking mechanism without much luck so far, suspect I wil have to replace with a charge cable port assembly!
Anyone who can suggest where I can get parts be appreciated.
