v70 T5 1997 alarm on after dead battery
My Volvo V70 T5 1997 have been sitting idle for 9 month. Now I am
back trying to get it back to life. The battery died so I replaced it but now the alarm goes on all the time when I reconnect the battery. Turning the door key left and right do not reset the alarm, as I would expect What can I do to bring my dear Volvo back to life ?? I would not mind getting rid of the alarm altogether There is no remote for the car, only the key |

I suspect that this may be the cause of the problem but, since I'm missing the manual, there may be another fix I'm unaware off. The key fob battery for my 1998 V70 died. On opening the door with the key the alarm went off and I couldn't find a way to stop it. Eventually it timed out. With the key fob battery replaced the problem went away.
I'm told that if the car is unlocked remotely using the fob it can then be locked and unlocked using the key without triggering the alarm, but I haven't proved this yet. |

This will be because the battery back up for the alarm has probably given up the ghost. Does the car start with the battery connected?
I had an old car that had the same problem, the solution was to drive it around (somewhere quiet!) and it cured itself after about 10 miles! |

The manual says ....
... Open the door with the key, alarm will sound. Wait until the horn has sounded for 30 seconds. Once horn has stopped, start the car within 10 seconds of the horn stopping. The alarm system is now disconnected. However if the alarm has been triggered by any of the sensors then this method cannot be used. In this case the ONLY way to start the car is if you have a working remote. |

I forgot that I had a remote for the car, I just never used it because the cover was broken. A new battery in the remote, and my Volvo started first time.

I have a similar problem with my 95 850. The battery died slowly over a month or so and then it stood for about 3 months. I put a new battery in and the alarm siren went off instantly but it produced a permanent alarm sound not the usual intermittent one. I disconnected the siren as it would not turn off, and it would not start regardless of which key I used. I have changed the batteries in the key fob and still it will not start or turn the alarm off. I even tried programming the key fob but I think that needs to be done when the alarm is deactivated. Is there anything I have missed? Any way to reset the alarm/immobiliser or disconnect them both?
The new battery shows 12.7v BTW. |

Does anyone know what the issue could be? Just to clarify it will not start even with the siren connected. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just to follow up on this, I took it to a garage and it needed a new immobiliser which sorted the issue, but now I have no alarm... Anyway its sorted in a way.
