Considering the usually high volume of anti-authority/establishment sentiment on this site, it seems a bit strange that when it comes to speed limits, because there is a sign post with a number on it, 'it must be correct' and people act like sheep.

The safe speed is one appropriate to the situation rather than an arbitrary number assigned to a stretch of road which has probably changed beyond all recognition from the days when it was assigned a limit. As have the vehicles using it.

Use your eyes, concentrate and its unlikely the police will ever bother you, although I have noticed an increasingly 'stealthy' set of unmarked cars on the roads. Hardly deterring crime are they if hidden?

Cue opprobrium from all corners.....

The issue is the people who think speed limits don't apply to them are the first to whinge about how unfair it is when they get caught. If you get caught, pay the ticket and chalk it up to experience. Sadly people these days seem to be completely incapable of taking responsibility for their own decisions.
