Default Volvo Nivomat

I'm about to retrofit Nivomat to my newly bought V70T Aut 2007.
---
When we bought our 850T/1996 in 2006 it had Nivomat.
Being a safety freak, I choose immediately to change all bushings, brake parts and other safety related parts in the under body, including the Nivomat shock absorbers and front shock absorbers.
Since then the car has run 150.000 km and once each year it has been filled to the limit with everything needed for a 3 week / +6000km tent camp excursion throughout Europe.
It has been a pleasure to drive the car fully loaded on the German Autobahns and after 10 years the shock absorbers still do what they are supposed to do.
Still, as a safety freak, a newer and safer V70T Aut 2007 was acquired this spring. The car has undergone much of the renewal process mentioned above regarding the 850, but is equipped with standard rear springs and shock absorbers. They have to be changed to Nivomat and it is expensive.
Our local Volvo dealer has a retrofit set including all necessary part for DKK 7595 ~USD 1150. I'll do the retrofit, - it is a straight forward task

Driving a Volvo is a treat, but it is expensive compared to lesser cars.

I'm had a set of Nivomats do over 200,000. Supreme quality. Brilliant things and not just for towing. The ultimate shock for road use. It is why the V70R was fitted with them, and many Mercs, Rolls, Bentleys, Jags and even the old Rover SD1.

But they are dear. So have a undeserved reputation because of this. If you let the bellows / gaiter on them crumble the dirt get into them, and mashes the seals. Then, they're often done for by 90,000 or less.

Volvo gaiter is pricey. Ebay for a fiver, I use Universal Mini steering rack gaiters with a bit of messing. Unscrew the lower knuckle and slide them on. If you look after them, you'll not be doing what most do, remove them and their associated springs and use standard fitment.
