Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread regarding faulty ABS control units. Recently I followed the advice and clear guidance on removal, opening and repair to poorly soldered joints, particularly the ones associated with connections to wiring loom and power supply. Close inspection revealed stress fractures, rather than dry joints to at least eight of these connections - probably the result of pushing the connectors onto the unit when first assembled (I doubt whether fretting corrosion through vibration would have caused this problem). Having previously spent in excess of £350 having a new camshaft speed sensor and two front ABS sensors fitted on the trial an error approach adopted by my local garage, I took the plunge and bought an inexpensive code reader that returned code P1633 and subsequently led me to this thread. After several weeks of intermittent ABS warning lights, flashing limp mode arrow, engine warning lights and occasional loss of the speedometer function, my C70 2.5t GT now runs free of warning lights and with full bhp on tap. Thanks again.
Next job - unreliable aircon that blows warm when set to blow cool!

I carried out the unit repair some time ago, but was still getting faults. Took the plunge and replaced the reluctor rings which have solved my issues. Before and after pics attached!

The rust and crud was confusing the system, registering a fault. Nice clean teeth, no fault!

Hello there. New to the forum. Have any of you guys tried this on a newer car?
I've a 2008 v50. Anti skid warnings.

Is it worth a go with that or am I getting into dodgy territory?

Just got a quote of £250 from ecu-testing for it. I'd rather not pay that if I can sort it on the bench myself.

Thanks

I’m not sure about the newer cars, they may have different issues. I have managed to repair a few myself now, but it does involve a bit of patience. I have found that I need to look through a large magnifying glass while I re-solder the joints, as it’s not until you look through a glass that you See the borders you need to keep within. Also the post you mention says “just remove the lid”. This in itself can be a little tricky if you haven’t done it before, as it needs to be cut off with the help of a hacksaw. You can make a neat job if you know how to remove it but I am talking about the 850, v70/c70 models.

I had this on my 2007 S40 D5 a few weeks ago - 'Anti Skid Service Required'. It turned out to be the ABS pump itself in my case, nothing electronic. The fault logged related to the brake pressure sensor switch, but that text error is generic can mean a lot of things - you need to see the actual fault code to identify the issue

Yes I have and it was fast and easy..and best yet, cheap!
Victor is extremely professional and I would recommend him very highly. He is also interested in other electrical problems that we volvo owners might have so if there are any extra parts with a reoccuring problem we should give him a shout andsee what he has to say. I'd say do it if you haven't done it already.

I'm tempted to try this after being lifted for 90 quid by an auto electrician to tell me all the wheel sensors were OK.

The only thing that worries me is cutting the case; some pics would be wonderful. Also if I do this and do not cure the light does that mean I can't then take advantage of the £100 reconn'ed units as they presumably want an undamaged exchange???

People, I have an ABS unit from my 850 breaker left in the garage so if anyone makes a mess of their unit they can have mine for a rediculously cheap price covering postage!!

Here to help

Really simple mate,
3 small torque scews fastening the unit to the brace, 2 on the bulkhead side and one opposite side.
Snap the connector lever back on top of the abs unit.

Hey presto.....

Done it this morning mate!!!
