Have found a diagnostic man locally who does every thing Volvo in particular. He tells me that removing the CD player should have no bearing on the matter but can and will cure it for me in the morning......Hopefully!
Thanks for your concerne and advice. Toby |

Speaking from experience here, as I ended up with the same thing when doing the exact same repair on my 2004 D5 (following RON XC90's excellent instructions.) Apparently it is caused by an open circuit when disconnecting the wiring for the stereo system with the battery still connected, OR reconnecting the battery with part of the stereo / console wiring not connected again causing an open circuit. I had mine re-set by my local garage with their fault reader and not had the message again yet (touch wood!) despite disconnecting it all again a week later (this time WITH the battery disconnected!) to complete the repair. I may be wrong but you will not be able to clear the message until all stereo components are in-situ with all wiring connected. I believe you can get a 'bung' to 'blank off' a disconnected wire to prevent an open circuit, but have no idea where from. Last edited by TheScrew1972; Oct 5th, 2011 at 17:49. |

Thanks TheScrew,
Hopefully the chap who I'm off to see in the morning will cure it but if necessary I'll put the CD back in place and start all over again. I suppose all that goes with the display and the phone wont work until it's all back together. I must admit that at some time the battery must have been still connected. Idiot that I am! I did try to follow Ron's instructions to the letter but senility and enthusiasm took over! |

Sorry Toby, my instructions do not mention to disconnect the battery as i didn't disconnect any of the in-car audio components/fibres. I preferred to leave the battery connected for (now) obvious reasons.
As mentioned, if you now have the airbag message, best to get the cd sorted before resetting the message else it will most likely return
