I rang vovlo solihull and the service manger didnt have a clue... so i tried reddictch and he said it was a common problem, and he said it would be about £70 for new seals and bolts.

I mite have a go at the bolts tonight, to confirm the problem, really annoying and as if a some tried ripping me off for a new driveshaft and just for everyones knowlege is was one of the independants on here... and 100 for a mount off a specialist when volvo only charge 120.. so not great deal, dont think i will use them again.

thanks for you help..

£70!!!! for some bolts? am I missing something?

Mine also makes this Clunk when the weight on the drive shaft is taken up and released, this is more noticeable at low speeds. However My dealer said it was normal! I knew at the time that was clap trap, but I know it does'nt cause any problems it's just annoying.
I'e never really looked into it more than that, but now armed with the part numbers and some instructions I think I'll get them changed.

Hi

Just tighten the bolts and problem solved!!!

After visiting this "garage" the guy there goes both my driveshafts need replacing at 48k, for the small sum of £600+, and he was saying bottom mounts need doing as well. He charged about £100 for the engine mount. Am glad i didnt have to pay that £600+, when the problem is solved by minor bolts,

Does none of the garages know about this simple problem. ????????

I wont be using them again....

Thanks for you adivce..

Glad you got it sorted, never fails to surprise me how much more knowledge there is in this forum that there is in the minds of the "experts"

Perhaps part of the training to be a Volvo mechanic should be to sit and read this forum!

Default Taking the P**s as usual

Just phoned a stealer (in Chester) to order the XC90 bolts - what a rip-off!!!!!

Bearing in mind that the normal bolts are £4 (see above post, and I asked the stealer), they want £14.20 for the XC90 ones (p/n 30714142)........ +VAT!!!!!!! From what I've read here they are exactly the same bolt as the S60 ones with a rubber cone on them - That is just a ridiculous mark-up.

Does anybody know a cheaper place to order these from?

Yep, exactly the same on the V70. Pop out the centre cap of the front wheels and there they are. Tighten them with a fair force (but don't go stamping on the spanner! will be a hard job to drill them out) then off you go, problem solved for a while.

For a permanent fix think people are going over the top with the new bolts though! either buy some studlock and reuse the old ones or, if you want to be sure the fix lasts even longer then buy the XC90 bolts. Pointless (IMHO) to pay for new bolts when all that's wrong with the old ones is that they need locking in place, especially if the XC90 ones are £14 just because they have a rubber anti-vibration washer put on them.
