I'm away from home at the moment but will have a look on Friday. I've ordered a 200mm phase 1 just in case that is the solution from here:-

As I said, it could be as simple as the wrong strut being used on that side. Buying the 200mm one is a botched job, as you have not addressed the real problem.

Hi Gatos, thanks for getting back to me on this. I'll be honest, I'm far from a mechanic but like to give the odd job a go as I'm tight fisted and like to get to know my cars a little better.
I'm now out of my depth though and really don't know what to do regarding resolving this as are we talking a major job, and where do I get a strut from? I'll take some pictures tomorrow and would love to hear your thoughts! Is this a phase 2:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-V40-...986#vi-content Last edited by doooford; Aug 1st, 2013 at 10:15. |

Well, the 200mm droplink is exactly the same size as the old one. I have replaced it as I'd started to drill the bolt out before finding that it was the wrong size. I guess this pretty much confirms that this is an old strut. Here are some pictures anyway.

You can clearly see that it is a phase 1. Someone did a nice cowboy job there. This is what the Phase 2 should look like

Don't expect those links you bought to last more than a year.

thats strange i always thought the suspensions where the same on v40 and carismas
on my car the link fits in to the control arm which is off a v40 phase 2. im guesing the roll bars are different then? might change it to a volvo set up as the mitsy 1 is a joke. i changed the links 2years ago and they were much cheaper i got 50000+ miles out of them so hopefully should get more from these. i am on the look out for a s40 diesel so i can blend in with this forum lol |

i doubt it i think its a mitsy set up also realised my calipers are at the front instead of at the back like yours. i realy need to test drive a x40 to feel the diference.
