Don't think so, it's the light grey (light? yeah, i know! ) interior that i believe was fairly standard on 940s with the other option being black. I don't think any got a nice beige interior.

They probably did beige cloth in other markets but I don't think they did it in UK spec 940's, the 740 did, really it should have tan leather to match the outside, it's a really nice looking colour.

What do you guys think a fair price for this would be if the words match the car? ie, excellent condition.

£5k?

...he asks just having bought a fairly excellent condition 240 estate in white!

You need a lot more info, manual/auto, 2.3/2.0. reg number for MOT history checks. Where has it been for that mileage?

As a 2.3l manual with a clean history and if it’s as described, rust free , everything works, I’d chance £4500 on it.

I’m biased.

Just seen it’s auto , so less .

One for auction near Dundee the weekend after next. Shame it’s an auto.

I seem to recall that one (or one very similar) being on ebay recently for around £9-10k - anyone else remember it or a similar one?

I don't remember the one Dave refers to, but here are my thoughts on this motor car: it is a non-historic registered vehicle (it won't qualify for the tax exemption until April 2029 - so another 5 years) with a very patchy MoT history, effectively no service history (13 stamps in the book takes it to about 2001 - 23 years ago - apart from a bit of nostalgia so what?) and is an auto. To its credit the recorded (but not verifiable) mileage is quite low, it is quite a nice colour and has a leather interior (good or bad? It looks quite nice but is cold in the winter and hot in the summer). This one has also had 8 former owners, which rather ties in with the just-in-time maintenance over the past 20 years or so.

From my experience I'd say it is not as good a deal as the Barge (which I bought 18 months or so ago for just over 2 grand) in that the Barge qualified as an historic vehicle almost as soon as I bought it, was a manual with some nice extras, similar mileage and ancient service history, plus it only had two previous owners (if I recall correctly). The Barge probably was a bit of a bargain, but even then if I extrapolate what this one is worth I find it hard to come up with more than about 3 grand. The guide price is £3,750 to £4,500 - I suppose it might make that on the day if someone (or probably at least 2 parties) get a bit carried away.

This isn't a motor car I'd pursue (because of the non-historic vehicle issue). These are just the thoughts of a grumpy man with a beard and a dog called Bob.

Addendum: if I recall correctly I sold the Barge for 6 grand last summer, by with time I'd tidied it up a great deal and more importantly it had qualified as an historic vehicle (making it tax and ULEZ exempt, which is exactly why the new owner wanted it). That corresponds well with my theory that historic registered 240s are worth between 50 and 100% more than newer but otherwise similar versions. That confirms thoughts about this one: £3,000 or a little more.

Thinking about it Alan, i think i saw this one on the 7/9 group chat on WhatsApp so maybe it hasn't apeared on here but the figure of £9900 on a classified ebay ad rings a bell.

Even then, while it's nice i thought £2500-3500 was nearer the mark, concurring with your assessment of it. Will be interesting to see what it makes on the auction it's now listed on, if i remember to check!

I sometimes find it quite incredible (not to mention irritating) that folk advertise things (cars and motorcycles particularly) for very much more than their worth. I suppose there is just an outside chance that someone might get taken in by it. £9900 would be an absurd price for a motor car like this one, I'm quite pleased that no one fell for it and the seller has had to resort to an auction. I agree with you that £3,000 (perhaps +/- £500) is what it is likely to make. If you remember do check up on the auction and let us know what it gets to in a couple of weeks.

Alan

Addendum: this is nothing to do with this thread or even Volvo motor cars. Clarkie had a nice day out on our motorcycles yesterday, delivering the Goldwing (which is too big for my bike trailer) to ‘Vegas, then bringing my Triumph back to Corby Del Sol (so it may be trailered back to ‘Vegas some time in the next month before the house sale completes).

The Goldwing is safely installed in its new home, also fish and chips by the sea always taste much better than anywhere else.

Another addendum: again, nothing to do with Volvos. It is something so satisfying to achieve a good aim at small cost. I had a little sub-project at the ‘Vegas house to automate the existing canopy garage door. A while ago I’d acquired an ex-demonstration Chamberlain electric door opener kit for only £73, and a second-hand Chamberlain arm for just £45. I had a spare day last week, and so fitted the ensemble to what will be my motorcycle garage at ‘Vegas. How cool is this:

… all for £130 including some electrical bits and pieces. The result has made me happy beyond its utility .
