You can buy the trim separately, along with the new dashboard, centre console and climate control panel you need to go with them!

What gave you the idea you had a 650 in the first place, these were fitted post facelift, never in a car the age of yours. The 650 has exactly the same fittings as the 850, ie the surround you're asking about, because they're meant for the same dash.

Default Head units

I think you will find that all head units in all software driven Volvos i.e. my 2000 on, once programmed to a car then become chassis specific (for security) therefor will not work in any other vehicle and cannot be re-programmed. New/exchange units supplied to dealers come with 'blank' memory and can only be programmed the once.

Paul.

You can still fit an 803 which would give you a similar upgrade, 4 disc changer instead of 6 and ProLogic instead of ProLogic II but in practise you wouldn't miss either.

You could probably sell your 850 for more than an 803 would set you back, help towards the amp/speakers.

The main reason I was looking to upgrade was becasue I wanted a Cd changer,

so with the 803 I will need the Amp + center speaker is that correct?

If you're happy with the sound from your existing unit it would probably be better to buy the add on cd changer or, even better, an iPod and iPod adapter, USAspec not the Volvo one, all for less than what you're talking about for a full upgrade.

Paul.
Likewise I have been given this same info by Volvo that these units are chassis specific once programed to the car.
Hope this helps.
