Where's the gull durned diagram? It's just a blank page. Great info btw. I'm too poor to even buy a relay. Theoretically, couldn't a fella just locate the hot wire that runs out of the CEM unit to the failing headlight(s), run a hot wire from a battery source, fuse it at, oh, 20amps and finally put a switch on it before connecting to the headlight power supply? I know, I know, a toggle switch running my left dim light is beyond ghetto and a little sad but to be honest, I'm gonna have to scavenger the switch and fuse. Ya, tough times.

Relays seem to be about the same money as a switch

Hi guys and gals,
New to the forum. This thread has been the most informative so far on any Volvo. Props! I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask. 2001 V40 USA spec. I'm having trouble getting my dealer to program my CEM for fog lights, which I've added. Gatos makes it sound easy. Can anyone tell me what I need to tell the dealer in order to get them to program it? They say "there's no option that shows up for your car". Also, is the central locking system tied into the CEM, or is that separate? I had them program a new fob remote, and now I lost driver door lock function completely, and the trunk only locks, does not unlock. I confirmed using a multimeter that the corresponding "signals" (actually just straight voltage as you all probably know) aren't being sent, and tested the solenoid for the trunk and it works both ways if I give it power directly. I think they goofed up the programming somehow. I'm going to keep pressing them to figure it out, but if anyone can point me in the right direction for lock issues, I'd appreciate it. Search came up dry except for this thread somehow haha |

Happy!
I'm really happy that I found this place. Past 2 weeks I was climbing all around and inside car to find out where is those damn relays for low beam. Until I accidently punched CEM and right side low beam appear for a while. After that I started to search for info about CEM and now I'm here.
Thanks a lot to every one who is here. |

Thanks
Thank you to all the users who posted really helpful information, links and photos. I recently bought a V40 with a non-working left low beam. The bulb worked when tested so an online search lead me here.
Time was against me as I had my NCT (Irish roadworthiness test) booked and would have been charged a fee to alter the booking. I thought I'd try the easy repair first before ordering new relays. I disassembled the CEM in the car (with the battery disconnected), located the correct relay, drilled a small hole in the lid, squirted a small amount of WD40 in, left it to soak for an hour. It worked, and I now have two working headlights. It may only be a short term fix but it's good to know where to get new relays if I need them. The car passed it's roadworthiness test, so thanks again to all the helpful users who posted. (Other work required was replacing a water damaged side impact sensor and clearing the SRS faults, one ball joint which required a new wishbone as some 'genius' had welded the old ball joint in, and two rear brake lines due to corrosion around the fuel tank area.) |
