As usual, drove to work on the M56. Did a beautiful tight overtaking manoeuvre, hung back off the cruise control a touch to let the car doing 72mph to my 71mph get past, I moved out in perfect time, and floored it to 72mph, and tailgated the car in front at 72mph with my foot hovering on the brake just in case, because the car approaching behind me was going way too fast (almost 80 I guess, he closed me down quick) and it didn't look like he wanted to slow down. He caught me up and started tailgating me.

Aware of the ridiculously dangerous position this put me in, sandwiched between two cars, I moved back asap to let him through, and waved my apology/courtesy for making him brake oh, 2 seconds sooner than he would have had to anyway. He floored it and then braked again as he immediately caught up the car I was tailgating (at 72mph). As soon as he passed me, I moved back out and sat behind him at a safe distance at 72mph, at which point he exuberantly waved the international hand signal for someone who pleasures oneself. I carried on tailgating both cars for about 3 miles at 72mph, laughing my head off at this angry little man with a bee in his bonnet. Then he moved over to come off the motorway at a junction and I overtook him, still laughing as there's no way I would have moved over that early. I came off at the same junction about 15 seconds before him. He caught me up shortly after that, and I just sat in the outside lane at 72mph overtaking cars doing 71mph for aaaaaages.

Drive smarter people, not faster and angrier.

Insurance renewal time -- Elephant wanting £510(!!!) with suspension mod (strut brace) vs £380 premium last year. I haven't paid over £500 for insurance since I was 19...

Took off the mod, and did a round robin, Elephant wants £418, cheapest is £289 with Tesco (hmmmmmmm -- and no "free extras" like courtesy/legal). Prices around £350+ with most "reputable" insurers but that's not bad. Volvo wanted £750!!! Waiting for quotes from Brentacre and Chris Knott next week.

I'm not paying £120 a year extra for a strut brace (especially as it isn't even fitted on the car at the moment!) although Brentacre pride themselves on "no extra cost for non-performance mods" so I'm hoping they come up trumps.

Oh, and I am SO HAPPY to have UR3s on the front wheels again!!!

It's like driving a different car compared to on the Proxes. Sooooooo grippy. I can feel the exact moment when the car starts to slip a bit, wet or dry, and I can push it REALLY hard into corners now, even in the wet the grip is exceptional. They'll wear out quick though, that's the down side of all this fun I'm having!

When the Maxes run out on the back I'll be thinking carefully about what I want to replace them with. Seems pointless going for more UR3s on the back, but they are pretty cheap, so what the hey.

One of the best feelings is your 190K 2003 V40 passing its MOT for yet another year - although good job I did a last minute check and noticed one of the parking lights had blown and did a quick replacement before leaving at the testing station.

Out of curiousity did a valuation on WeBuyAnyCar and it gave a valuation of £115 - that did bring me back to earth!!!

I wish all I had to do was a parking light.

Thumbs up

Collected mine from the garage after having new dimpled and grooved discs, plus pads and cat back exhaust fitted.
Oh, also passed another MOT with flying colours.
Had it serviced too.

Gave my V40 a wash and hoover, replaced interior bulbs with LEDs and tried to work out why the ignition barrel and switch stalks are loose! There's a hole in the top of the aluminium that might take a small screw to stop the movement. Anybody else had this issue?
