Default Dash Illumination

I've just noticed (had the car 3 years now - 2003 S40 Sport) that two control knobs in the dash are not iluminated. The fan speed control knob and a/c temp control knob are not illuminated. No problem with the blower direction control knob in the middle - like Blackpool illuminations. I don't know if these were ever lit up so can't rightly be sure they are meant to be. More a curiosity question than a need to fix, far too worried about putting burrs on the plastics - anyone got any ideas?

Cheers.

Thanks Matt, I took it all apart this evening no problem and two bulbs are clearly blown. Our local autoelectrician didn't have bulbs to fit so just have to pick some up. Only a 10 minute job really.
