Mystery warning light?
Hi all,
Can anyone tell me what this warning light, that appeared on my '99 T4 this morning, means: There's no mention of it in the owners manual, and I've searched on here and can't find it, so I'm stumped. Thanks in advance. |

That indicates a problem with the engine managment , maybe an emission problem hence the lambda symbol , you will need to get the fault codes read and let that lead you in the right direction ..

Thanks Clan.
I can't say I'd ever heard of the 'Lambda' symbol, and needed to Google it just to find out what it means - 'The 11th letter of the greek aplhabet'. That's pretty obscure just to tell you there's something wrong with engine management. It also seems very odd to me that it's not listed in the owners manual. Talk about making things difficult for people! Anyway, thanks again. Last edited by biggow; Jul 6th, 2007 at 12:13. |

Hi,
Try Googling Lambda sond instead!! The Lambda Sond or sensor detects issues with the efficiency of the engine and gives warnings when incorrect fueling is detected. The fault could lie with a faulty Lambda sensor, or some other fault on the engine management system. Best bet is to get your fault codes read so you have an idea where the problem lies.. Des. . .

Yup, the engine management system has discovered a fault worthy of warning you. The fault codes can be read with the OBD system (On Board Diagnostics). You will need to purchase a reader (eBay).

Lambda warning light that isn't
My manual shows the lambda symbol as the last but one warning light on the bottom right and states as you guys have that it indicates an engine problem, possibly emissions. However my problem is that on my car I don't have a warning light with a lambda symbol there but I have what I think is supposed to be an engine but it's hard to tell. My question is this even though it's a different picture is it still the engine warning light. It seems reasonable that it would be as it's in the same place and looks a bit like an engine. Confirmation off someone who knows would be nice though. If it is does this mean I have to take it to a garage to have it diagnosed by computer to find out what's wrong?
