Default BSR PPC or RICA Softloader?

For a Volvo D5 163 2003MY Manual... Can anybody please advise me as to what they have had or heard about these remaps and the tools associated with them... Or should I just take it to somebody professional instead of DIY with tools etc... Toying with the idea of a remap!!

Default MTE software.

Hopefully, if you have now spent some time in your research at www.t5d5.org and elswhere you will have read some fair comment on the Swedish written MTE software that I sell here in the UK and their unique Softloader system.

For the earlier D5s MTE software will gain you outputs of 195bhp and 410nm of torque. The later, more powerfull diesels in D5 and lower output forms all give 220bhp and 475nm.

The peak horse power claimed with rewritten software is a bit of a blind alley for you when judging what you get for your money, the most important figures are those of torque as it is a given that you make the most progress with any diesel engine by liberal applications of the generous mid range torque. With MTE that is where you get peerless results as all their software, both petrol and diesel, is written to give the highest safe, sensible torque outputs across a wide rev range.

I presently charge £435 including VAT for this software. You do also have to pay a returnable deposit of £155 for their unique Softloader Device that allows you to install it yourself when it acts as an interface between your car's OBD port and an XP equipped laptop.

If you keep the Softloader Device after the installation you can use it, with the laptop, to swap between standard Volvo and MTE software. With the Softloader Device you can also buy MTE's data logging and diagnostics packages for £135.

If you check www.ipdusa.com you will find some comprehensive further information on various videos....IPD are the MTE distributor in the US.

Best regards, Don.

With RICA you have both options available! The RICA upgrade itself gives you 198 hp and a generous 435 Nm, with the torque available over a wide rev range resulting in superb performance and overtaking grunt, plus the added benefit of a noticable improvement in fuel economy.

For installation of the RICA upgrade, you can either go for the RICA iSoftloader and do it yourself, or you can go to your nearest RICA agent and have them install it for you. In your case, the nearest agent is in Buckie.

If you opt for the RICA iSoftloader, you get a hand-held programmer that does not require a laptop to program the car. You can use any PC computer connected to the internet to download the RICA software to the RICA iSoftloader, then you simply take the RICA iSoftloader to the car, plug it into the OBD2 diagnostics port and program the car with a press of a button. You can switch between standard and RICA software at your leisure!

The price of the RICA ECU upgrade is £440.63 inc VAT and the optional RICA iSoftloader is £99.88 inc VAT. Full details are available here -

Default MTE Software.

One important advantage that you have over all other offerings with the MTE software is that it is written individually for each vehicle based on the initial read out that you make with the unique softloader device.

You can take further advantage of this fact by getting a dealer to reflash your vehicle to install all Volvo's latest software revisions prior to your initiating an MTE rewrite which is then retained and incorporated by MTE when they prepare your bespoke software package for you to install.

MTE is not a 'catch all' reflash available at and downloaded from a website regardless of the provenance of your existing software.

Regards, Don.

Default RICA software

One important advantage that you have over many other offerings with the RICA software is that it is written individually for each vehicle based on the actual software version in your car, as read by the RICA iSoftloader.

You can take further advantage of this fact by getting a Volvo dealer or independent Volvo specialist to reflash your vehicle and install all Volvo's latest software revisions (eg service updates or recall updates), then have RICA incorporate these updates using the RICA iSoftloader. The same also applies if you opt to have your RICA upgrade installed at your RICA agent, without the RICA iSoftloader.

Don't get BSR

Their map is OK - but the throttle settings are a bit Odd and customer service is pisch poor.

Go for RICA or MTE

personally, If I had my money from the BSR back, I'd get MTE

This is simply not true. I am the customer mole mentions and I can state as fact rica could not incorporate volvo software dealer updates onto my car. now got mte and they could incorporate the updates. 2 months of to and fro and nothing to show for it. can't fault the effort put in by my rica agent but the mapping was simply dreadful. lambda 0.97-1.0(rica stage 1,2 &3) all way to rev limit. no good I am afraid. go mte not rica.
now got fuelling spot on at first attempt. now runs 0.83-0.88 lambda with mte.
I am dissappointed you mislead customers like this adam when you and rica simply cannot do what you say you can do.
