Default Tyres and Exhaust

Hi

Newbie to forum and Volvo's. Finally bagged myself a s60 2.4 diesel after years of wanting one. What a lovely machine it is. 2006 116500 drives spot on very comfy. Have a quick question as you may tell I run the car as a taxi, everyone comments how nice it is, but its needing some new front tyres. I do a lot of miles being a taxi and on a range of roads country, dual carriageways etc. Any recommendations on best tyres to get?

Also think the exhaust is starting to blow a little is it worth just getting a bog standard exhaust for it or any others that may last longer as i'll run this car till the engine packs in (which i've heard could well be a few years yet if looked after).

thanks in advance

Hi and welcome.
I’ve also got an S60 2.4 D5 and I love it too.
Tyres are subjective, when you say “best” to me that means best value for my needs, my car is used mostly driving around my city, commuting to work, shopping trips, visiting friends, so I don’t need a premium tyre because my car isn’t driven to its limits. I have bought all makes of tyres over the years and to be honest I can’t tell much difference between premium and budgets, the last set of Michelins (energy saver) I had were poor in the wet, they would easily spin but they’re good point was long tyre life.
Currently have Westlake’s SV308 fitted on 225/45R17, good all round tyre, no complaints, I could afford to fit mid-range or premium tyres but from experience, I just personally don’t see any benefit in doing so, but like I said, tyres are subjective!

I've been running Kendar budget tyres on my 2001 V70 and got about 24,000 miles out of them. The premium tyres give better grip because they are made from a softer rubber compound, but that also means they wear quicker.

Budget tyres are a harder compound so less grip but they last an absolute age, unless you rag the nuts off your car.

If your going to taxi use Coopers tyres, I think they now own Avon but its the Coopers you want. Ive never changed an exhaust - ever.

Cambelt, aux belt and handbrake shoes. Dont run the cambelt to 90K change about 60K at a guess. If you dont know where the car has been, change all this week.

Cheers for the info. Guess im like everyone with tyres want long life, grip in wet and dry and value for money. Roads in Northumberland where i work are awful.

Just had the belts changed could find no history of them being done so thought at 116k best get them changed!
