Are you mad?

It's had 4 MOT failures including last September. Does seem quite a high price for a 14 and a half year old car, even with it's less than average mileage.

Price has come down, it is now £4990.
Having sad that, yes, I probably am mad anyway (Mrs Ted keeps telling me that I am!)

The MOT fails all seem to make sense, as do the advisories.
Last year was windscreen and it is advertised as having a new one recently.
There is a suspension bush MOT fail and a pass three days later, with same mileage, so it looks like it might have been left for repair.

BUT. I know what you are saying and I'm doing as much reading as I can before I see it on Wednesday.

52 plate is the very early cars, they were only sold for a month before the 03 plate came out. That said though there were no major early flaws.

The photo is very old as the trees in the background have no leaves.... so it's been for sale a very long time. If you do decide you want it - bid him very low, say 3.5k, and only if it's got a good, insurance backed warranty.

Do all the usual checks too - all electrics, parking brake, AWD etc.

Thanks. Hadn't noticed the trees, but did get the feeling that he'd struggled to move it on.
I'm in a position where I have to part x mine, no time for the hassle of private sale, and he's the first to offer a decent figure.
It is low mileage, backed up by MOT records, so I'm hoping it's worth paying a little extra for.....
But we'll see.

23/02/2009 Pass Mileage: 58,926 miles
13/02/2009 Fail Mileage: 58,894 miles Refusal Notices Parking brake: efficiency below requirements (3.7.c.1b)

15/01/2008 Pass Mileage: 56,276 miles
17/01/2007 Pass Mileage: 47,717 miles
18/01/2006 Pass Mileage: 32,608 miles

When you look at the dates car has been tested regurarly pretty much at the same time every year WHEN THIS HAPPENED

30/09/2010 Fail Mileage:61,175 miles
Refusal Notices
Nearside headlamp not working on dipped beam (1.7.5a)
Offside headlamp not working on dipped beam (1.7.5a)

Why car was booked so late for the MOT September 2010 instead of JAN or FEB 2010? Good question... Maybe it had accident before and it took some time repair? Could be damaged front end and that why headlamps failed? Too many maybes at the moment.

Obviously I didnt want spend money for the full report which would tell about the previous accidents if this car was involved.

Is it worth 3.5k as Tannaton suggests? I dont know but definitelly not 6.5 or 5k
Less than 100k miles for nearly 15years old car can be too good to be true.

If you're being offered a generous p/ex price, the seller has excess money in the sale figure.
Further confirmation that it's over priced.

I think it would be worth 3.5k if it has good history and stands well. I saw a 2003 with 96k sell for £3,1xx on e-bay recently - private sale (auction) with no warranty or px option. Even cars with north of 160k seem to be doing well over £2k. But it would have to stand well needing no further investment - a set of decent tyres is £500 (15% of my suggested value...) and you really should read up and check the AWD by turning the propshaft.

I would add though if it was my money I would be looking for later cars with higher mileage - you might get an early 185 with say 140k for that. That said though I do all my own repairs...

Please don't!
My 07 is only booked at around £2500.
You can find something much better for the money you're looking to spend.
