Default XC90 viewing surprise

Hi everyone. I'm currently looking at getting an XC90 for our family car and am concentrating my search on a facelift model up to about 2010 depending on price.

I've looked at a few that haven't been quite right for one reason or another but looked at one today that seemed to fit all my requirements. However, I'm really embarrassed to say that I missed something really obvious in the ad that I discovered during the viewing! It's a manual gearbox! I feel like a right idiot but I guess I just assumed it would be auto because they all seem to be. I don't think I even realised that a manual option existed!

To be honest, I'm not massively bothered about it being manual. In fact in some respects it might suit my sedate, fuel saving, driving style quite well. But am I setting myself up for a fall? I'm worried that if anything goes wrong with the gearbox it might be difficult and/or expensive to fix seeing as how most XC90s are autos.

I'm looking at keeping this car for about 5 years or more so want to get the right thing. Should I just keep looking for one that suits my spec exactly or am I just worrying my head about nothing with the gearbox?

Thanks all.

Mine is a manual, pre face lift but it has done 231k miles. The slave cylinder needed doing at 172k miles and I had the clutch etc done at the same time. The manuals are more fuel efficient as you can take great advantage of the torque and keep the engine revs low mine will happily drive in 5th at 30 and 6th at 40 as long as is not a steep hill at 40 in 6th the engine is only doing just over 1000rpm. The foot operated parking brake does take a bit of getting used to. I don't think the cost are higher as there are plenty of P2 platform volvos using the manual box. They are not worth as much and are harder to sell however as most people do want an auto which is something to consider for selling on purposes.

Wow, banned with only one post on the forum: that's got to be a record.

Ditto - 256k on my manual. Just had the clutch and slave cylinder done (3rd time I think). Budget for it as it's not a cheap job if it hasn't been done yet. It's booked as an 8 1/2 hour job, DMF, clutch and slave cylinder, not much change from £1800 quid.
