Default Volvo diagnostic system tester

I have just purchased some diagnostic equipment. The volvo system tester 981 3100 and diagnostic key P/N 981 3010. I have a 1996 tdi and just wandering if anyone knows if these will suite my car and if not does anyone know what model they are for. I believe the first one is for 740's but not sure. Also has anyone any knowledge on how to use them. The first one mensioned has loads of different cables but i was hopeing that the diagnostic key may be usefull to my car even if it can only be used for turning out the service light.

Hi Dean...
I know very little about the MSA 15.7 system that runs your car....but i am sure the actual scan tool is the same for all the 850 being 998-8686. The Test box code is also the same 981-3190. Clearly there will be some wiring due to the different sensors etc...
Why not PM Rufe, he will run the part no's through the system for you....
Cheers
Jod

If you can post a picture of them I may be able to help.

The diagnostic key is for pre'96 vehicles with the diagnostic socket in the engine compartment.

The volvo system tester should have an OBDII type lead and cassettes for various Volvo models.

Part Number for the adapter, VST (981 3100) to OBDII type is 951 1457
OBDII lead 951 1460

Cassette for all pre '98 cars except 40 series is 951 1455 or 1433

If you you have all these parts you will be able to carry out serial diagnostics on your car.

I do have the lead and the tester, but no manual.
Is there a way, to obtain one, I mean, is there someone among you guys, who can guide me to a link or something?

Help is greatly appreciated.
