XC90 Steering Wheel removal and replacement
Does anybody know what is involved in removing the steering wheel and replacing it.
I have a wooden wheel that i would like to change for an original. I suspect the airbag is an issue, would it be sometyhing that only volvo can do? Would the inner workings be the same, i.e the airbag mine has 3 spokes wheras the original is 4? Picture of mine attached. |

If you would like to sale the steering wheel please let me know. (jacjgj@aol.com).
I have removed the wheel cover on my car to tighten up the nut before which was not hard but not sure if the air bag is the same fitting for your wheel as the standard one. I would disconnect the battery for about 10mins before disconnecting the air bag or you will get fault code on dash, but I'm sure more knowledgable people will reply soon. Martin |

Scroll down to steering wheel, wood at http://accessories.volvocars.com/Acc...yling/interior. It looks like there would be a change of 'components' in going to a four spoke steering wheel. Such a change would be stupendously costly! Why would you want to do it? A wooden steering wheels is a premium design element, highly prized! I wish we had one on my wife's XC90. If we would have ordered it, we would have gotten the wooden wheel and maybe a wooden gearshift handle, but we bought it out of dealer stock.

I find the steering wheel on my '11 model Exec less comfortable than the one in my previous '53 SE.
I was wondering if it would be possible to swap it for the "R" steering wheel, or would it be ridiculously expensive? |

Hi,
thanks for the responses, the plan is to swap it with another forum member who wants a wooden wheel, its the bit about swapping airbags that i was wondering about, as the airbag modules for 3 and 4 spoke steering wheels are different, so it would be a wheel and airbag module swap. |
