Main dealer or not?

Hi guys,

Hopefully you can help me out with a conundrum.

How much would you/have you valued your main dealer warranty? Are they worth the circa 1-2k extra I'd be paying for it?

I suppose it's one of those things you'd rather have and not need, than need and not have, but it's a reasonable chunk of cash.

I'd like to think I'm savvy enough to pick up on most issues with a car before I bought it, but you never know.

It's the most I've spent on a car so want to make sure I can get the best I can for the money.

Any advice welcomed.

You've done the right thing and asked here first (which I didn't do, but have probably got a bit lucky - so far!). It will depend on the car, it's known issues and what, if any of them, have been fixed already. EG if it is a T6 with 50K on it's first gearbox, I'd buy the warranty knowing what I now know. I am sure others can give you more in depth advice, but as I am discovering slowly, these are complex cars of which all variants seem to have their own issues. Probably not the gold plated advice you were seeking, but I am also pretty new to this XC90 ownership game and, as above, there are others here who will be able to give their views based on longer ownership. Other option is to consider an aftermarket warranty, which might save you a few quid...
