I finally cleared all my abs and speedo issues thanks to help from posters on here. I measured the resistance of each sensor and found that the replacement sensor I got from a breakers was no good (I had already tried a salvage abs ecu which turns out to be fine and I might now sell)

I ordered a new sensor from Rufe at FRF, fitted it (only takes a couple of mins) and then went off for a test drive. Got it up to the ABS self test speed and the lights went off, but I could feel the abs pump kicking in randomly under braking and then getting really loud/violent at times.

I unplugged the sensor under the bonnet and went for another drive and it was fine so this ruled out anything I had done in fitting the sensor. I then spent about an hour cleaning the abs ring on the drive shaft with a wire brush and also cleaned up where the sensor sits on the hub assembly (it wasn't bolted in as the bolt sheared when removing). I then hooked the sensor back up and went for another drive. The abs light was on but went off again after the self test and it was fine under braking.

Based on my experience I would get a multimeter on all the sensors and check the resistance and if thats ok check the condition of the abs rings. Mine was also a '99 ME7 which I sold reluctantly yesterday.

right, got the ABS ECU tested today, no fault there, pump checked no fault. so proceeded to check the wiring from ECU to sensors, nothing wrong with the wiring. next checked each sensor in turn got reading there within what has been said on here. checked ALL earth points they are ok. checked all relevent fuses and relays they all seem to be working ok.

what the hell is going on here??

can anyone shed any light on this without me having to go to the stealers agian?

cheers

simon

Thinkin in "Rangie" mode here fer a mo .... on the P38 if you got a low voltage (Undercharge) from the Alternator it would throw up either a "Gearbox" fault message or make yer ABS light "Flicker"

I'm probs way off base here but have you checked your Alt / Battery recently (Both on "Static" & "Load" readings) On the P38 the lowest Electrical connections (to the ground) were the ABS sensors & the Gearbox ECU consequently they got the most "Hammering" from Road spray/Salt & Cr*p ect & were the first to "Show Failure" due to a low Battery Amperage output..
