240 GL 1990 Engine Change (2.0)
Hi all
Another new member here to your forum and lm looking for advice please (have tried 'search' without success) Have today purchased a 240GL 1990 the seller advised that the engine has been changed (another Volvo 2.0 engine fitted) however DVLA has not been notifed of this (car has been off road for over a year) My questions are: 1, I have put the new engine number on the log book as part of the new keeper notification - Can l expected any problems from the DVLA due to change of engine 2, When l get the car insured, does a engine change account to 'modifications' made to car 3, How can l find out 'exactly' what engine is fitted i.e any numbers or codes to look out for. In the event of needing spares etc 4, Am l right in thinking the engine number is on the right handside and consists of 7 numbers only (no letters) Thanks in advance for your help |

1) I would not expect any problems with DVLA
2) As long as engine is same spec as original cannot see it counting as modification. 3) Engine number should provide all info needed. For service items all the 2.0 have same parts 4) The engine number is below the thermostat housing. Mike

Just to make doubly sure is there a code on the cam belt casing, (the black plastic thing on the end of the engine, looks like a kidney bean)?
Should start with a B*** |

Andi dont tell him about my trick, putting a 2.3 in and "it says to 2ltr on the engine". The cover can easily be swapped so not a 100% acurate method but does give you an idea.
