Cool Pulling to one side.

Afternoon,

I have a 2006 V70 T5 which has started to pull to one side under braking, the car has had the brakes checked for sticking pistons and any wear on both brakes and suspension and all is clear, next step was to put it on the rollers and check brake efficency and all is in order!

The mechanic suggests 4 wheel laser allignment!

Can anyone please advise?

It will be your control arm bushes. Jack the wheel up and give them a check for play.

Both arms replaced last May along with discs and pads.

The pulling only happens under harshish braking and only when brakes are first applied.

The only thing that springs to mind is:

Worn tyres which are picking up the camber? Glazed/contaminated pads on one side (o/s) giving unequal braking?.....but that would probably have been picked-up in the brake check as would a faulty brake proportioning valve???

My first assumption would be bushes or tracking but the former seems ruled out - what about the latter?

And of course, the obvious is tyre pressures but I am sure you have checked those.....so a bit stumped TBH. It's just a case of working through everything methodically.

If you've had previous suspension work done they may well have disturbed the camber, which is adjustable on these cars, and lacked the competence to reset it again when they finished the job.

It may not be a bad idea to find somebody with a hunter alignment appuratus and ask them to check all the alignment angles properly. Won't be cheap unfortunately, but may worth the gamble?

One place to start is here... http://www.alignmycar.co.uk/

Had mine done a few weeks ago after I got fed up with a slight pull to one side on some roads. It has transformed the car which now drives straight and true. It has also made it run quieter, with much less road noise, which was an unexpected benefit.

I fitted a new control arm and 9 months later I had brake pulling and the steering wheel was twitching. Turned out to be the bush on the new control arm was completely shot.

I would double check to be sure.
