Cheers.
Hi there, I may need to send my CEM to Volvodiagnostics too if its found to be faulty. What is the estimated repair cost?
Kind regards

Another ICM gone. How many miles had you done before it went?

I didn't mess around when my CEM went. Took the car straight to Volvo and they fitted a brand new unit, new wiring and a new upgraded plenum cover. Once water has got into that unit, who knows how it will behave, I just wasn't prepared to risk getting a repair and something else happening. Also CEMs are often sent back as unrepairable anyway. Then you have wasted all that time when you know Volvo will 100% repair it - good as new. Cost me £1500 but it is the only right way to do it IMO.

Spoke to Volvodiagnostics. He said he's off to holidays until 6th August. If the new battery I pick up tomorrow don't resolve the problem then I can take the car to him after that date and He'll investigate for me.

Which is cool if you can afford the car being off the road. A lot of people get them back after being told it can't be repaired. You pay your money and take your choice I guess.

If it's fixable, look how much money you save.
Most people could take the car off the road, take a week unpaid leave and still be better off.

He just did my DIM. £65 versus just under a grand from Volvo so that's a free holiday for me with the saving.
Running straight to the main dealer is madness for this kind of stuff, in fact main dealers are madness for almost any kind of stuff.

I agree it is worth a try but the CEM is basically the car's brain. If he can repair it good as new and with a guarantee then it is worth a shot. Main dealers are expensive but loyalty pays dividends too. They gave me a free major service, including cambelt change as a gesture of good will when my CEM went. Only because the car had a FVSH. For the same reason I got a great discount on a new angle gear and spline sleeve.

They're a business which means that if they're giving you hundreds of pounds of free stuff, they've had that money off you already through obscene hourly rates and high margins on parts.

Because of the money you spent, no doubt you've had a better overall deal compared to using another garage but you've been given nothing for free.

Don't forget also that the CEM water ingress and spline sleeve issues were Volvo's own fault through bad design yet they still expect you to pay for their incompetence.
No wonder they chuck in a free cambelt and oil change.
