Default Volvo V70 mk2 rear quarter window removal

Hi everyone, I need to remove the rear quarter window for paint spray job, from removing the inner trim panels, I can see they are glued in, Not a problem I have a removal tool for this, but rather than remove the window is it possible to remove the outer sealing rubber/metal/plastic "L" shape trim without damaging it, or is it a case of once removed it will need to be replaced, does anyone know?? any bodyshop guys out there? if this is the case, at what cost?

Why can't you mask the window and rubber seal? I have never heard of removing a fixed window to paint. Is there rust around the window opening?

No rust, but to do a proper job the window needs to come out, or there will either be a line where the new paint ends(by masking) or possible overspray on to the trim.

obviously I'd prefer to leave the glass in and just remove the trim around it, then I could mask the Glass, do the paintwork, then refit the trim, but I can't work out how or if the trim is removable without the Glass coming out.

the old 940's had chrome trim which clipped on /off,
if I remember correctly the trim is attached to the window which we called encapsulated, its is possible to remove the widow by using a wire tool, its possible to (kent ) out the window our kent tool is a 90 deg blade as your having the body resprayed you can sort the scratches out,,
re-fitting the window is easy,, i still have my window removal tools here if your struggling or i can talk you through it.
i can find out for you tomorrow.
and if need a cost of a new window,
need to know year of car, what side its on, any alarm or heating elements in it, colour of the trim,

Hi, thanks for the files and help, it does look from these files that if the Glass comes out the trim no 6 + 7 in the diagram has to be replaced with New when re-fitting, I've got the tool for cutting through the Glue/resin with the 90 degree blade and wire pull/handle, I'll have to price up these items the rubber and the trim to see if I can justify removing the glass for a more proffesional finish, or not, it will come down to the price of these items basically. Thanks all.

looking at the piccy number 6 will be attached by 2 torx screw(probably hidden in the door jam or behind rubber trim) and clips, without seeing it myself in the flesh i cant say, but it will leave the glass,

Spoken to Volvo dealer today, easy to see where the slang 'stealers' comes from, you can't buy the rubber trim separately, with the window £133.00 each, it gets better £60.00 for the metal trim bit, which doesn't come painted, (for that money it should be gold plated) Volvo really don't help themselves do they!! I may find a scrappy to try removing a window on one there first, to see if after being removed the glue can be cleaned off, and the whole lot re-fitted with just new glue, got to be worth a try, anyone with a body shop that has done this, please feel free to share any experience of it.
