Apparently you have to go to the local VOLVO STEALER mate. I've that pleasure to face myself at some point. My fob is goosed and I dread wearin' out the ONE key slot on the drivers door! Why no passaenger key slot is beyond me! Ho Hum!
I believe it's about £50 to £60 to reprogram the bleeders and around £20 on Ebay for a fob? Less is a good price apparently.

phase2's require a new fob with the code on packaging to add it to the car. ones from ebay/ 2nd hand are useless unless you need new cosmetic parts

Hi, i spoke to my dealer today and they told me that a second hand remote couldn't be reprogrammed for my car but it could if it was older. However i have a 2000 registered V40 but from when i had to buy a new headlamp, i seem to remember being told it was old shape 1999 model just happened to be registered Feb 2000. Does this mean it is not a phase 2 and a second hand fob could be reprogrammed? I was a bit stunned and never queried it at the time.
i think the dealer is mistaken as there are loads of identical fobs for sale 2nd hand and surely this means they can be reprogrammed
my fob is a basic 2 button one with lock/unlock which sets and resets the alarm/immobiliser as well as the locking

2000 model was a phase 1 but its electrics are pratically phase 2 which is why a 2nd hand one cant be programmed. phase 2's came in around sept 2000 and are 2001 model onwards

from what i remember although i could be wrong, they have to connect the car to the central volvo server is sweden to do it. i've seen salvage places selling fobs with the control module and they say its plug and play.i havn't tried it but if it works might be cheaper?
