Default Inlet manifold gasket replacement

I'm going to replace the PCV breather system of my 850 this week, have located enough info to tackle the job, only thing I am wondering is whether I should add some gasket sealant to my list of tools for the job? I have the manifold gasket itself. Question is really whether this alone is enough or whether it would be better to add some sort of sealant when fitting? Thanks.

The gasket will be fine on its own, both faces are machined flat and give a good seal. Just make sure they are both clean and torque the manifold bolts to the correct settings

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^WHS.

When I did my PCV, I just used the new gasket by itself and it was fine.

fantastic, job done. Sailed through the emissions test and on! Must say, the trickiest part of the job was getting everything back in place with the inlet manifold. One tip for those contemplating the job - make sure you get ALL the lower inlet manifold bolts started before you put the inlet manifold back on. You save yourself a lot of pain by doing so. Access to the left lowermost one for example even for me with fine fingers was nigh on impossible so I had to take it all off again and start with the lower bolts. This way was straight forward.

Whoever is doing their inlet manifold should remember that the lower bolt holes on the mainfold are slotted and therefore only require you to loosen the bolt and lift the mainfold off once the top bolts are completely removed. You will obviously need to remove the lower bolts to replace the gasket but then put the bolts back in prior to replacing the mainfold, makes the job a lot easier and less likely that you will drop and lose bolts.

Thats a very important footnote there - I made the mistake of taking the far left one out and it was a bit of a barstool to put back.

Just done the pcv in my c70 turbo me7. What a pain in the rear that was. Had to cut the fuel line to the fuel rail as it was metal, and the banjo connector from the long heated hose to the manifold was a 2 hour struggle to connect. The car seemed to fight me every step of the way, but it's done now!
And not before time either, when i took the oil seperator off it poured grey gloop all over the place, took ten minutes to empty it into a bucket. One hole into the block was blocked with thick wet oily gunk, and the other one was completley blocked with hard dry carbon crud.
No more smoke from the dip stick tube now, but still coming from the oil filler.

How many miles has it done?

Just gone 120,000. But it wasn't looked after before i got it.
Interestingly i was having an issue with it starting on 4 cylinders before i did the pcv and cleared a couple of error codes, now it's starting on the button. (touch wood)
