Default Swirl arm/flaps

Are the flaps supposed to be closed when engine stopped?
(closed as in arm down towards engine)
Mine is away from engine with dreaded arm falling of syndrome

From reading some stuff on VIDA yesterday, it says the flaps are open at low revs to maximise the swirl for better combustion, but they close at high revs for better power. IIRC, the sitting state when the engine is switched off is closed.

You should be able to check this. I'm pretty sure that when the car is started the motor immediately pulls the arm back away from the engine, but pushes it back towards the engine as the revs rise.

Mine must have dodgy stepper motor, mine is rite back with engine off. Even car running arm is back.
Will get someone to rev engine while I watch arm

I am working from memory about which way it operates, so I may be wrong.

My 2006 s60 used to be closed when engine off, think my stepper is stuck open.

Does vida/dice have option to operate stepper motor?

My 175 bhp D4 does not have a swerl flap arm, I have spent a long time looking for it before I asked my dealer where it was, reply from a fitter in the workshop was that it was internal on my engine.

Closer inspection shows arm is stuck back in open position.
Tried running engine and stopping 6 times and no movement so motor is foobar.
