Certainly true for factory fits but is it also the case for dealer fits? The article doesn't say and presumably it'd mean replacing part of the centre console.

It was specifically pointed out to me by the dealer that dealer-fit Smartphone integration will only have one USB port. Factory fit Smartphone integration has two USB ports (with all the caveats people have noted in this forum).

The dealer had an S90 which they had added smartphone integration and it did indeed only have one USB. They also had an S90 with factory-fit Smartphone integration which had 2 USB ports

There are instructions on the Volvo site for fitting the iPad holders which show that the extra USB ports are effectively piggy backed from the one connection in the centre armrest/console.

This will be why, on the factory Carplay /AA set up only one gives a full data connection and the other is for power.

It would be very straightforward to present an additional port in the console I think...

That said, on balance, I'm going to stick with my aftermarket iPad holder and the near flush fitting 12v to USB plugs. They look neater, are much cheaper and very easily reversible. I rarely use the 12V accessory sockets for anything other than charging USB kit anywayf and also have the 230V socket for the middle row.

Initially it was reported that AA wouldn't work with only 1 USB port fitted. Volvo said it was a Google/Android limitation although that seems hard to believe as only 1 port is physically required for a connection. I wonder if this (alleged) problem has been fixed now.

As an aside, Volvo's literature says the car doesn't support a USB hub but I have a 5-port hub connected with an iPod and USB stick plugged in. Both work fine.

Lexman8. I think there might be some issues with AA on the S90 (and so probably the XC90 as well).

As part of the LBS (Long Boring Story, which I will post when I get a chance), I am actually on my second S90 this year.

The first in early Jan had SmartPhone Integration (SPI) as a dealer fit option (so only one USB port). When I picked it up I was told SPI had could not be installed properly, and specifically Android Auto (AA) was not installing. I was told diagnostics had been sent to Volvo and it would take a couple of weeks.

I never checked out the Apply Car Play (ACP), as I don't use Apple products. I'm not sure I actually saw the ACP app, or settings in the menu, but I was not looking for them so they could well have been there and I missed them

This week I picked up another S90 with SPI as a factory option (so two USB ports). I had made it clear it was AA I wanted, not ACP and was told it would have both. However, when I see there is only ACP. No AA settings, no AA icon, nothing happens when Android phone plugged in. I will be contacting them to get this sorted.

So 2 cars, both of which should have AA, and neither do.

Welcome to the 'I've Had 2 Volvos In As Many Months club'. I'm on my second XC90. It too is a long story which is documented ad nauseam on this forum. Anyhoots, hope your 2nd S90 goes well.

I think AA software has to be installed separately so perhaps the dealer just failed to do that. At least one other member on here has had it installed successfully on his XC90 (which already had CarPlay and therefore 2 USBs) so it should be okay on your S90.

Do you have the Android Auto app on your phone?

I *think* you need it for AA to function as the phone does the main bit of the work.

Just tried on mine but no dice - Mine's MY16 and I think AA only came in on MY17

Murph

Yes, I have AA on the phone.

The S90 manual says:
Quote:
Starting Android Auto
The first time an Android is connected
1. Connect the Android to the USB port. In the cases where there are two USB ports, the one with the white frame around the port must be used.
2. Read the information in the pop-up message and then tap on OK.
3. Tap on Android Auto in the app view.
4. Read the terms and conditions and then tap on Accept to connect.
> The subview with Android Auto is opened and compatible apps are shown.
5. Tap on the desired app.
> The app starts.
When I plug my phone in nothing happens. There is no AA app in the Apps view in the Centre Display.

The manual also states:
Quote:
Settings for Android Auto*
Settings for a phone that has been connected the first time with Android Auto.
Automatic start
1. Press Settings in top view.
2. Press Communication -> Android Auto and select setting:
...
There is no Android Auto settings under Communication. There is an ACP section, but no AA.

So, I have to conclude that AA is not set up on this vehicle, despite being told it was. Maybe, as Lexman says, they have simple not added the AA option to my vehicle. But why tell me it is there, when it isn't, especially as it was an issue with my previous S90.

Will ring them later today. Got a couple of other "niggles" to raise with them

Certainly sounds like it's not installed (the car's definitely a MY17?).
