Default Newbie advice

Lots of discounts on the old shape XC60s at the moment. I'm looking at a D4 AWD Se Nav.

What are the big services?

The one I test drove had lots of squeaks from the dash - is that common?

Any general advice very welcome, thanks

D4 AWD is the slowest in the stable. If performance is important, go D4 FWD or D5 AWD. What options are important ? Make sure you select the car with the options 'factory fitted'. Some are impossible or very expensive to retro-fit.

No squeaks, rattles or dash noises on mine, a 2015 /MY'2016'

Sometimes a cross wind howls through something in the A pillars or screen surround, that's it.

As the poster above says, the D4 AWD is slow and quite thirsty compared to the FWD D4, if you need AWD you want the D5, faster, similar real world consumption.

If you dont need the AWD and done mind a bit of torque steer, the FWD D4 was the fastest diesel model in later years.

Mine hasn't has any repairs or issues 40,000 miles in.

I think you can pre-buy a service pack that's good value - mine are in with the lease so I cant advise on the price.

I've had two over seven years and neither has had any squeaks or rattles from inside cabin.

service at 18000 mile intervals , 36000 72000 are air filter and fuel filter , 54000 = aux belt on 5 cylinder , cambelt 108000 on 5 cylinder longer on the 4 cylinder .

I've had two XC90's prior to my 60. The first didn't stay long due to a number of issues - one of which was very loud creaking/cracking of the dashboard. That problem was never fixed.

My current XC60 is a lot better but the dash does creak slightly when driving facing the sun. I guess it expands from the heat.

got the FWD D4 which is plenty of engine. If you don't NEED 4WD drive I wouldn't bother looking. Lots of good FWDs and 4WD around at tempting prices, but make sure it has the options you want, because retrofits are virtually impossible. Build quality generally is excellent, so a creaky/noisy dash should be a no-no.
My first Volvo and very pleased. Good as the Merc E Class I had for 8 years......
