Hello chaps!
I'm thinking about getting a tow bar for my S70 and I'm on a budget so I will probably get a used one from a scrapyard. The thing is I'm not sure what tow bars can I fit to my car. So my question is does a tow bar from 850 or V70 fit S70? Also is there anything special about the wiring? As usual thanks in advance!

Just yesterday I fitted a towbar to my V70, I purchased it on ebay after getting prices between £45.00 and £60.00 at my local breakers.

The one I purchased was delivered next day and was the cheapest new bar available;

The only issues I had were the exhaust hanger was a pain to remove and the bumper mounting brackets were badly corroded but I got a local welding shop to make some up out of scrap steel sheet they had lying around. As for the wiring I used scotchblock connectors as I have used many times in the past without issues on previous towbar installs. In total it took about 3 hours to fit and an hour to do the wiring on both sockets, I took the bumper plate and stabiliser bracket off my Mondeo.

Keith - good information, but I'd have thought that postage to Finland might make that uneconomical?

Cheers!

Hi

A wiring kit is available from Volvo for about £70 pounds which makes the wiring very simple.
It connects in to the large connector block just to the left of the spare wheel well.

Good info though - I keep meaning to fit one to my V70, same colour as yours too.

If you do get one from a breakers, don't forget to retrieve the metal plates (which hold the captive nuts) that lie inside the rear chassis legs. Take the rear bumper mounting brackets completely off, and you should be able to lift the plates out (after you've unbolted the towbar obviously).

An 850 towbar will fit a V70........ but I don't know if they fit the S70
