Default Another car as easy to maintain...

Hi all

My 1997 V40 is starting to get a little tired, and I'm going to start looking for a replacement. Initially a phase 2 V40 or S40, but I'm tempted by the new shape S40 - the trouble is that the forum doesn't look as full with DIY fixers as here. Can anybody recommend another good car for DIY maintenance that is comfortable and quality...?

Cheers

I found myself in a similar situation and wanted to return to an 850, or some other large Volvo, but the 2.5 TDI is a bit costly to run over here. I was fortunate enough to get this tidy example of the phase 2 S40 and I'm very happy that I chose to stay with the classic shape.

My advice would be to stick to what you know but come up a few years. Linky

Stop showing that picture, and this is an order!

It makes me want to run out and buy one

Cheers,

That is nice Baffler - I'd be tempted if one came up. The trouble is that around here (south east) not many come up for sale...

Show off... lol. Your baby is too good and hard not to show it off. Just many people are drooling every time they see it, including myself.

Back to pphilpot's question, I prefer the Phase 2 S40/V40 over the new ones. Saying that, the interior of the new ones looks great. Phase 2 have many improvements comparing to the phase 1 ones and look better too.
If possible go for a diesel like baffler showed in his link. Mine is the same colour but the sport edition and i love it

I got mine 6 weeks ago from Oxfordshire 85 miles from London. Keep looking and something will come up soon

Any phase 1 70 series - I've yet to tackle a job which is a pain in the proverbial and makes me say "never again". Which I have with a lot of other cars...

I had to fly to East Midlands and onto Leicester for the V40 and Bradford Leeds, twice, for the S40's. I don't mind traveling for the right car

Thanks all for the kind words

Looking at this post in the other forum: Link it appears the early models have a fair few issues that don't sound cheap to fix when they strike... Phase 2 it'll be then (for now)

Not to be a complete thread hijacker but mine is for sale!! Plus I am in the South East as well!!

Also, I am not of a mechanical mind at all but compared to other cars I've owned I find this to be easy to maintain and look after.
