Fule Door Locking
Hi,
the fule door in my S60 doen't lock when I lock the car, does this have to be enabled by the delear? or is there a hidden button to do this? I looked in the boot and opened the compartment to get access to the rear lights and I can defineatly see there is a mechanism for locking, but it doen't seem to lock. Also I thogut the s60 was supposed to automaticaly lock itelf after sometime incase you forget to lock the door, tried this as well, closed all doors without looking the car and waitied for 15min but it didn't lock it self.... any suggestions. |

The fuel cap should lock itself some minutes (can't remember exactly) after you've locked the car. The idea is you can lock the car when you get out at the petrol station but still fill up with fuel.
As for the car locking itself, this is only if a door (or boot) hasn't been opened since unlocking. This prevents accidentally unlocking the car. If it locked itself under other circumstances it might lock your keys (or your kids/spouse ) in the car. Cheers, Alistair |

That’s what I thought about the fuel cap, I locked the car and If I check after about an hour or even the next day without unlocking, just try to open the fuel door, it just opens.
I wonder if its a blown fuse or something for the fuel door Lock? I can't find one mentioned in the manual though. |

Looking at the US manual it seems to be fuse 8 in the boot for the filler cap (haven't got my UK manual with me so I can't check), but it is shared with the central locking for the rear doors. If the manual is correct then it seems unlikely its the fuse. Considering how many people have problems with the standard door locks I would suggest it is probably the lock itself that has failed.
BTW be grateful it has failed while un-locked. I know someone with an S80 on which it failed in the locked position - this is a bit of a problem when you find you can't fill up and don't have enough fuel to get home! |

Can't say what might be the problem - but the filler flap lock is as much use as a chocolate fire-guard. Get yourself a lockable fuel cap - at least these put up a bit more of a fight- although if someone wants to siphon the fuel off, there's much easier ways to get at it without touching the fuel cap.
I belive it should auto-lock after 8 minutes. Aye, the car only auto-locks if you've unlocked it and havn't opened a door. It will re-lock and re-arm it'self after about 2 minutes. Vipes

Ok I found out what was wrong with the fuel lock and I though I would share it.
Took the lock apart, very easy if you have torex set, The picture kind of explains everything, the cog wheel is plastic .....so two if the prongs in the plastic cog wheel had broken, since it was a enclosed box, the two plastic pieces were also in the lock, was able to super glue them back on the lock is working now. If it gets locked in the closed position, the bit circled in red is visible if you open the panel to access your back lights in the boot, just pull it back and forth will operate the lock manually. |
