Default Fuel Pressure ????? Help

Hi All i have been having a few issues or 'Gremlins' in the system.

Its odd, only until the cold weather have i had the issue. When i start my volvo a week or so ago it took a 2minute pump then it fired up. It would idle fine, but if i put it under load between 1,000 - 2,000rpm it would stall unless i caught it.

So stopped and turned the key off. Big mistake. Took at least 30minutes to get going but then the problem just disappeared.

So fired up next day no problem. Tried 4 days later problem was back again but now i cranked the engine and just before the bat died it almost fired.

So went back and turned the key from pos 1-2 about 10 times and it started just (then the bat died and engine cut out).

My question is - could the regulator not be holding fuel so it is draining back into the pump, so by turning the pump on and off its putting fuel back into the system?

I don't think it's the relay as the pump is quite and primes with no problems, i have spark, coil is outputting 12 v and bat is 12.6 volts norm/13-15 volts when running.

Default help

you will find them bolted to the top of the engine fitted to a rail of some kind, there will be 4 or 5 of them depends how many cylinders you have. Oh what car do you have too that will help loads? DO NOT remove them and put your finger over the end to see if fuel comes out but remove one from the rail turn the ignition on to see if theres fuel [you will need lots of rags]

You cant miss them they may be under a cover brightly covered with an eletrical socket on them with a fuel pipe connected to each.

Cheers i will have a look tomorrow. sorry to ask - last car i worked on was an SJ413, so big step up.

I am assuming that on start up the injectors squirt fuel into the cylinder. So if these have no fuel or the fuel is drained at the back to the tank these will be skirt small amounts of fuel into the engine not allowing it to start.

So if i have a fuel system problem i am expecting to see a small bit of fuel to begin with then alot of fuel as the fuel is forced through the line.

However if it squirts fuel every where my search goes on.

Ow would a fuel pressure test help?

Cheers
Andy

I haven't tried the fuel pump relay, but i assumed if the relay had gone i won't be able to get it started at all, where as prolong crank will get it started but i could be wrong.

Cheers
