City Powder Coating, if I recall? They don't have a website but are on Facebook

I'm planning to buy a tatty(ish) set of Craters at some point, probably when my rears need replacing, get them refurbished in Brum, and swap the tyres off my old wheels, and then offer my old Craters up for anyone who wants to refurb them in the same way.

Then again, it's probably still cheaper to just buy some refurbished Craters....
It sounded good - until I read this page:

https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl...1a3af09fbe34,1

However, picking up a set of Arcadias soon and as soon as I get them on, my Craters will go up for sale so if anyone wants first pickings or info on mine then deffo PM me now - I'll do my best to help but like I said could be between 1-3 months before they are available!

Still have my white bulbs in my clear side markers as my ambers haven't arrived yet. =)

Regards

James.

I got stuck into my Craters with an orbital sander to completely remove the curbing.
Not my bloody curbing.
Pretty simple due to the shape of the lip, half hour job.
Got a wheel from PommyLand with corrosion in the spoke corners and the sealing lips
like a tributary of the Colorado River took me a week, well longer than the others.

Because the melons can't be trusted and when you work in a noisy stinking hot shed
what sort of great job are you going to do for the boss on someones wheel for peanuts
and why would anyone these days do a good job for thirty five quid.
Even if, they knew how.

So when they messed one wheel up the owner tells me that the same
bloke sprayed all the wheels, so how could he mess only one up.
?????????????????What an arsehole.
They must have used the wrong blast medium on one wheel or the dude fell asleep and left the gun spewing in one spot.
Wheel came out with a non slip surface.
The tyres are supposed to do that not the wheels.

Blah blah blah blah blah, didn't charge me, not the point still an arsehole.

May be not so stinking hot over there.

I saw those reviews, sounds like a shambles, but also sounds like when they get it right, and you don't take the p155 giving them pile of crap wheels with tyres on, expecting perfection for £80, they are very good.

I'd like first dibs on your Craters PM sent

Had an interesting discussion with a mobile wheel refurb guy, he reckons you won't get a good finish if the wheels are corroded, "if it's corroding out, it's corroding in"

But he knows a place locally that will shotblast and full refurb for £65 a wheel which sounds about right (goodness knows how they do it for £20 in Brum...)

I've seen enough DIY jobs to think I might try it myself, at least as regards getting the corrosion off, although obviously I can't powder coat at home..... Have tools, will grind

More tyre/wheel related stuff

Today I decided that my tracking is definitely fixed, and marvelled at how much quieter the Rainsport 3 are compared to the Dunlop Sport.

Although I am thinking intently about what Dog_book told me about his place toeing the front in slightly to save on tyre wear, but maybe that's specific to his Vectra.

Having worked in the blasting and powder coating industry I can whole heartedly say anything can be coated, as long as the prep is done. Badly corroded or not, the correct blast is key to remove all contaminants, etch prime and coated in epoxy and baked at 180 degrees for 20mins. On badly curbed rims, the area was given a flash coating, baked and smoothed off.
Many an early morning was spent painting alloys for friends, before the boss turned up for work lol
For the nice metallic finish 2 pack gave the best results, covered in lashings of lacquer

I'm getting my crators refurbed soon, and I am Brum based, so I'll find out whats what.
£20 sounds way to cheap, most places are asking around £50 - £55 per wheel, a work contact recommended Prestige wheels in Erdington which is not to far from me so will check them out first.
