Default x40 1948cc - pipe from air filter to exhaust manifold?

Hi all

my 2001 2.0i V40 has a flexible metallic (foil) pipe running from the back of the engine (exhaust manifold) to a rearward facing port on the air filter box on the right of the enginebay

its pretty knackered, holes in a few places, working loose, rattles a lot.
I looked online and bought a "flexible air intake hose, 40mm" which looked identical. However, the internal diameter is about 1mm smaller than the pipes onto which the flexible hose slides and is strapped down.

Can anyone advise if this hose is a volvo-specific part and what it does / what it is called? Also, would it be possible to use a polymer 42mm hose there or does it carry heats too high to allow this? I cant seem to find a metallic 42mm air hose anywhere but 42mm hot water flexi pipe is widely available.

Thanks
Chris

I searched for "V40 air hose" and "V40 heat pipe" and got no useful results at all. My problem is not knowing what its called and what it does. I'm not so rude as to ask without searching first....

Don't need it????????Huh?
Just spent the last couple of days
refurbishing my V 2.0 PH 1.5 air box
Hot air mushroom pfoofer valve was snapped off and cold air flap was flapping, disconnected from the hoover device.
In other words, always driving around with hot air pumping through the intake.
Sending the patent for the revised design to Sweden
this week.
The winters here are warm
It' nice to have the temp gauge at half way
in between a minute or two
